Acer Aspire 1622 LM overheating and touchpad problem.. again.

Well, I guess I posted something about this problem earlier and finally decided ( because of lack of useful support from my fellow forummembers :-) ) to call Acer support and request a repair. So, they sent someone to pick it up, etc, etc. Finally the thing came back, and yes, the problems ( annoying noisy fan when making use of its abilities and a touchpad with an own will ) seem to be fixed. Only after one week the touchpad problem came back, did not annoy me that much, because I use an USB-mouse, most of the time. Only today I noticed that the fanproblem came back. It's noisy again.. making loud noises, because it is getting too hot. Dust-related problem ? No, I clean the fan regularly.
So, after I ran some searches on this forum I found something about Acer using cheap/low-quality thermal paste. Since I don't want to lose my computer again ( I got it back after 4 weeks ), can someone please tell me how to get this thing open so I can smear some good thermal paste between the CPU and fan ?

PLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEEEE, help me. I will reward the person who helps me with smileys already available from the frame to your right.

Thank you in advance.

Btw, model: Acer Aspire 1622 LM

There's many tutorials on applying thermal paste, like Arctic Silver, readily available on this forum and on the the web-- use the handy dandy search function.

I have found a fantastic photo-guide. Check it out. It's for upgrading the VGA but one of the steps is applying thermal paste.

Yes, thank you much indeed. But maybe you don't realize that this is an Acer 1622 and thereby differs a LOT from the 1300 series. It doesn't have screws in the back only in the bottom. You can just take out the hd very easy, same goes for the ram, but the DVD player ? Haha, good luck with that without a guide. No, I think I will just stick with my sucky Acer notebook for a while and eventually buy an awesome computer and use this thing to beat people up with.

Ha, it seems everything is fixed after all. We managed to get this machine open. HA ! Applied some new thermal paste and cleaned out the fans. Next project, building in WiFi and Bluetooth.

acer aspire 1622 LM

Hellow,

I had exactly the same problem. And indeed cleaning does it!! I did the job this morning. For those who want to try it, google on "service manual aspire" and you will find an exploded view. That can give a hint about how the machine is built. The guide in this thread and the exploded view helped me to open the machine quickly.

Temperature dropped 30 and 40 °C so that's a lot. There was a lot of dust inside that prevented that the heat could escape. I also applied new thermal paste. Silver thermal compound formula 5 from antec. My local pc shop told me that this is far the best. I saw other websites that mentionned this thermal paste too.

Now, my fan is nearly off. I don't hear him.

well done for getting it working.. may i suggest that you do a search for the field service manual.. on the subject of bluetooth.. i once spent nearly an entire afternoon trying to acquire a module for my 1680 .. i gave up when a female teenage trainee sternly lectured me that i shouldn't be opening my laptop unless i was a trained engineer.. and so i got to thinking.. for a five dollar usb dongle .. why bother.. its a psychological trip.. just my o.o2

Hmm,

When I look to this service manual: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download...410_1680.htmlµ

then I c that the bluetooth module has the shape of my modem module. I think you don't have to open your laptop. At the bottom of your laptop, you will find to lids you can open. One for memory and one for modem and I think also bluetooth card. Those lids can be opened with 2 screws.

On the drawing I guess 6 is the modem, and nr 35 is bluetooth.

Everyone I talked about my "opening project" said it was dangerous and stupid. Well it is not. I'm an Industrial Ingeneer, but that doesn't change anything.

Even the feeling of succeeding in what I did was the best gift I got from this project.

ahh chill.. i'm not doubting your engineering abilities!!..
not all of the models have the bluetooth module under a hatch cover.. to get the bluetooth installed in my 1680 i'd have to take the entire thing to bits.. my 1522 is totally different.. its a 5 minute job with the hatch off the bottom.. mind you that is assuming that you can get the parts.. i've been trawling ebay for a year and never seen one.. as for acer

so i got to thinking.. seeing as i hardly ever use it.. why bother.. i thought this might be a solution for some readers.
