8890 not working

My 8900 recently locked up and would not restart without freezing. I left it off for an hour or so and then it would boot up again only to freeze after about 20min. I ran memtest and found one of my sticks was bad. The other one ran with no errors. However, that did not solve the problem and will boot after sitting, but then will lock up. When I try to reboot, it will lock up on detecting RAM at about 6M. Is this a Mobo problem, RAM problem, heat problem, or something else?

Did you remove one of the sticks before rebooting?
The system can run on one good stick but the bad one must be removed.

I did remove the bad stick and ran memtest with only the single one with no errors, but it still locks up shortly after startup (when cold), and during RAM detection after crashing.

Well, I ran memtest again. First with one stick, then with the other. 40+ passes and no errors. However, when I put them both in at the same time, memtest recognizes 1024 RAM, however it still only checks it as single channel and 1000+ errors on first pass. Starting to think that my motherboard is the problem...

I have been very happy with the performance of my Sager, but now I am starting to doubt their quality. Two of my USB ports didnt work, so I had my mobo replaced along with a broken hinge on the lcd last year, and now this...and I am not hard on my laptop either.

You might have a problem with a mismatched pair of memory sticks. Or of course as you said the mobo is having a spaz attack.

There was a lot of early issues with memory not being matched pairs.
This of course means having to replace both sticks at the same time
(I know you don't want to hear that...)

Sorry to hear you have had so many problems with your 8890.
Email Sager they may be able to help you some more.
