AGP or PCI

I was in my compsci class and my prof was saying how AGP slots are for newer, faster graphics cards and yet, the use of AGP has been declining ever since well, it's existence. Is it true that AGP slots are used for better video cards? What about PCIExpress?

AGP is used for video cards and was the fastest interface for that purpose until late last year with the advent of PCI Express. The use of AGP did not start to decline until now really, because of PCI Express. Before it came along, all truly capable (Hardware T & L) video cards used AGP. It may have slightly because of integrated graphics on motherboards, but in my experience, most people who want integrated graphics have no clue what AGP is anyway.

in a little more detail...PCIe has much more bandwidth for data transfers that AGP...plus it is also SLI capable...leading to even more performance gain...AGP is ging to go the way of the dodo..unless they jack it up to 16...or even 32x
