Compaq X1012

Not positive if that's the real modle number since QVC lists it as "Compaq Presario X1012QV Notebook PC". But anyway my sister in law's father ordered this from QVC for $1600 and change (daily special) and i wanted to see what everyone thinks. I told him since he only needs it for business and internet it for it was pretty damn good (i mean just look at the price he's paying). Here's a quick run down of the main specs.

1.3Ghz Pentium M
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 - 32MB DDR
512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) at 266Mhz
40GB HDD (don't know RPMs)
15.4" WXGA WVA (wide viewing angles?)
Integrated intel 802.11b
6.5Lbs

That's the main stuff and keep in mind he's not really a gamer. Oh and it's not shipping till sometime in september. Here's a link:

This is the link
Click "specs" for a PDF with more detail then what i mentioned, it also has a list of all the included software right above.

Lemme know what everyone thinks.

If you configure that laptop on compaq's website its $1499 with a $100 dollar mail in rebate. If you go to Best Buy and confgure and buy it from them it'll be $1499 with a $150 and a $100 mail in rebate pluse whatever no interest deals their currently running.

Here's a prebuilt model available:

Some people love the x1000 series, but others have encountered some problems with the keyboard. Seems like a good notebook to me. I'd cancel and order it online or go into Best Buy and order it there. I will be even cheaper.

It's the same thing as when people pay hundreds more on bid sites such as ebay or ubid. "I'm bidding on it, so it must be cheaper, only now it's 'It's on qvc, it must be cheaper'

Always be sure to dig around online prior to buying anything -- my motto after learning the hard way

Yes, but keep in mind he's getting A LOT of free software, and those mail in rebates are always a pain in the ass IMO.

heh what kind of free software? will he use it? also, check the screen resolution, cause I heard that the lowest resolutions screen looks like crap.

I have used all 3 screens on the X1000 and none of them are even close to looking like crap.

Woah don't know what happend to that link, i guess since it's a javascript the hyperlink won't work right. If a moderator comes along maybe he could delete that one. Anyway if you want to see the software that's included just click the link in my first post and then click the button that says "included software"

the x1000 is a good machine even dell doesn thave something to compete. its widescreen light weight and powerful its clearly better than there 600m yet nto as good as the d800 i would reccomend it by ordering it with the slowest cpu and low ram then buy the ram elsewere. I knwo the battery life can get really good with it. roughly 4 hours on avg use and 5 if you just leave it on with power saving features. thats close as you'll get to the battery kking the IBM T40p (7 hours and 32 REAL minutes) but the t40 will set you back an easy 3k
post #12 of 13
t40p will ;-) you can get a t40 for $1500 if you want. Well its a 1.3 with a 32mb radeon 7500, but the same battery life.
actually its not the same battery my friend has a T21 T30 T40 (not T40p) and the battery gets shafted sniffle
