Another possible solution you guys could try:
Get the PCI Latency Tool from Guru3d.com and lower the latency for the graphics card to 64(usually set too high >250). Standard is 32 for add-in cards. Since the Video and Creative cards are bus masters/hogs they fight over the PCI bus causing the pops. Same thing happens in games.
I've also come across threads on the card reader drivers for the ENE tech CB1410. Some folks have said ENE drivers helped. Here are a bunch that I found, the HPs being the most appropriate:
