Have you tried Fn-F5 to change CRT/LCD mode? It might have defaulted to something other than LCD when you flashed the BIOS. Let us know how it goes -- my CL56 just got here minutes ago and I want to avoid this problem if it turns out to be serious.

Neuron, I tried it and it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Do you have an external monitor you can hook up to it to see if it's putting out video at all? Maybe go into the BIOS with the external monitor hooked up if you can and see if there are any settings that you can tweak to fix it -- if you get video at least you could always reflash to an older BIOS.

I did that, that didn't work. I pressed the FN-F5 to switch modes to the CRT and that didn't work.

I tried unplugging the AC, plugging it back in. That didn't solve anything.

no customer support? prolly a better idea to call them than to wait around for one of us to throw out an idea.

i have a good feeling that its dead
im on the phone with mwave but they said that if they cannot fix it (ie corrupt bios) they send it off to compal for a motherboard replacement, who in turn sends it back to mwave who then ships it to me. Has anyone done this sort of procedure before?

Is there any way to just flash the bios and reset it to its initial settings? I've done this on a desktop, of course, where it's as simple as moving a jumper for a couple of minutes, but I don't know whether it's similarly trivial on a notebok. That seems like it might be the simplest thing if it were possible.

Sorry to hear about you sad problem.
If it ain't broke Don't fix it!...
Having said that sometimes it's nice to have the most up to date bios.
I don't know what WLan card you have installed, but unless you have an A band card or A band combo card it's just not worth the upgrade to 1.30 as this is the main changes to support A band frequency on the wireless network.
Compal are fair so you should have you laptop back without a charge once they have fixed your bios or rig if you have cover.

im covered thru mwave because i purchased the laptop less than 30 days ago.
However mwave must first run their own diagnostic tests. Once they deem the laptop broken, they then ship it to compal. I was wondering if anyone has done this before because I wanted to know the turn around time. How long before I'd have the laptop back in my hands?
Thanks!
