MR 9800 in Gentoo Linux

Thread Starter
Greetings all,

Just finished a stage 3 install of gentoo on my iXPS. Everything's great, but I can't seem to get 3D acceleration to work. I tried ati's drivers, but it gave me some garbage about finding screens but none with a usable configuration.

If i go into the xorg.conf file and change the kernel's radeon driver it works fine, but this doesn't have 3D acceleration. The flgrx supplied from ati is the one that is giving me the error message.

Any ideas?

Yeah I tried Installing: Mandrake 10, Fedora Core 2, and Slackware. I had Video Acceleration problems for each of the afformentioned distributions. I heard there was supposed to be some fixes in the next revision of Ati's Linux Drivers for compatibility with the MR9800.

I tried mandrake 10.1 and couldnt get the acceleration to work, and when I installed the ATI linux drivers i got the nuke bomb screen effect. Not good...

I will wait until ati really starts to support linux before I try again.

I was under the impression ati does not release mobility drivers?

Their linux drivers "supposedly" supported mobilities from M10 and up.
