Uniwill 259IA3

I'm considering going with this laptop since the M6N doesn't have the WSXGA screen. What I like about the M6N however is that it looks sexier (the gray cover on the Uniwill isn't as attractive as all black), is a product I know for sure is of high build quality and reliability, and I think has a longer warranty. However, the Uniwill has the screen, price, and video card as its advantages. Has anyone used both of these and what are your impressions? I currently have a HP NC6000 which I love because of its keyboard, quietness, speed, portability , and battery life. The reason I want to go with a M6N or 259IA3 is because the HP right now doesn't have the best screen in the world (bad viewing angles) and I want a widescreen. I've seen the W3N which is ultimately what I want to get, but by the time it comes out, it'll most likely be summer which is too far away for me now.

So basically my questions are:
1. Are there any other differences between the Uniwill and the Asus other than what I mentioned?
2. How would the keyboard, battery life, and portability of the Uniwill compare to my NC6000?
3. Is there a volume control on the laptop?

I read the mini review on the Uniwill and I got a vagues answer about battery life and portability. However, it's hard to visualize how the laptop will be by just reading one review. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I considered a M6N before, but I went with uniwill.

According to the asus website, some differences are:
Uniwill 259IA3
- Radeon 9700 256mb
- dimensions: 12.1" x 10.2" x 0.9"-1.4"
Asus M6N
- Radeon 9700 64mb
- dimensions: 13.9" x 10.9" x 0.86"-1.34"

For those who question about the 12.1x10.2 dimension for the 259IA3, I can tell u it's TRUE... they did fit a 15.4" screen on that thing.. I measured it myself! But i'm not sure about the M6N having 0.86-1.34 depth.. lookin at the asus pictures it seems pretty thick compared to the uniwill.. but i dunno. All I can say is that the 259IA3 really is that small.

Other than the M6N being lighter, the only difference there might be is that the asus probably has more power features than the uniwill. The settings on the Uniwill is at a minimal. The cpu frequency either runs at full power, or auto adapts itself to whatever you're doing depending on your windows power settings (laptop, desktop, etc.) Dunno about Asus, but i just kno that the IBM thinkpad has alot more features and is more customizable. Also, the 259IA3 isn't that great.. about 3 hours... give or take half an hour depending on various settings..

consider that that uniwill GPU has 4x the memory that need to be powered. I think that SpeedStep is rather basic on both systems. It just goes by multipliers.

the memory for me on the video card isn't a big issue since the most intensive game I'll ever play on the laptop is Counter- Strike. eijiyuki, have you weighed the laptop and how big is the power adaptor for it? 12.1" wide for some reason doesn't seem right since that's about how wide my NC6000 is and it's only a 14" XGA screen, but I'll trust you on it since you said you measured the width of it. How does the processor step down on the uniwill? My HP for some reason goes all the way down to 83 mhz (!). Also, what applications were you running to get that 3 hour battery life?

I've used a Uniwill 259IA3 and I have to say that it's quite a nice laptop.

The main issue for me was using it for like 8 hours my hands ended up having slow burns (aka, my flesh was cooked) because the laptop gets real hot if you're 3d gaming. Yeah yeah, World of Warcraft is addicting..

The screen on the 259IA3 is not that great. it's a usual flat matte screen. The one I was using had no light leakage, but the vertical viewing angles weren't so hot. Horizontal was fine.

Eh, it got that hot? Also, how would you compare the screen on the 259IA3 to other laptops you've used?

The laptop that's most ideal for me is one that's 12-14" widescreen for around the same price as the 259IA3. Only requirement is it's gotta have at least a Radeon Mobility 9000 and I prefer one that uses regular DDR notebook memory, not the micro DDR memory.
