dust in heat sink

has anyone taken out the fan and checked out how much dust has accumlated on the heatsink ?

No we just use some compressed air every week or two to blow out to dust....

was just wondering is this procedure endorsed or mentioned by dell? my laptop's been under heavy use for a year now and i figure there's stuff stuck in there..i'm covered under 3 yr NBD on site...so can i just get em to come over and fix it?

question is, do you want a dell techy to open up ur laptop after all the horror stories posted here? i know i dont :S

anybody got links to horror stories? i had a guy come change the keyboard on my 600M..no problems there.

Some of the techs know what they are doing but they are in such a hurry that they forget things. As to doing it yourself, just get some cans of compressed air and clean it out.

Depends on which laptop and heatsink you mean. It's easily accesible on my 8500.

just remove the removable fan...
and see how much dust has accumlated there..
