Upgrading hard drive: Seagate Momentus or WD Scorpio?

Hi, I recently purchased a really cheap Dell in order to get in on the $500 deal and have a chance to upgrade it. I've already upgraded the RAM to 768MB and now I plan on upgrading the hard drive. I have the cheapest hard drive; it is right now a 30GB 4200-rpm one. Surprisingly, it seems to provide decent performance.

Everyone says (with reason) that the faster spindle-speed HDDs are ultimately superior in performance, so I'm going to go ahead and upgrade it soon.

The choices I have for myself are:
80GB/100GB 5400rpm Seagate Momentus 5400.2
60GB 7200rpm Hitachi Travelstar 7K60
80GB 5400rpm Western Digital Scorpio (8MB cache)

The Seagate is $169 for the 80gb one, $199 for the 100gb.
The Hitachi is $149.50
The WD is $151. [All newegg prices]

Which one seems like the best deal? I'm concerned about battery life as much as I am about performance, so that's why I mentioned the 5400rpm ones. I'm really asking the people who have comparable hard drives or the people who have done similar upgrades. Any real advice on what is best recommended?

also see the toshiba 5400 rpm series, they come with a 16mb buffer

i'm not sure if any other manufacturer has that cache size

Fujitsu is not that bad also, I am using that thing in my computer right now. Quiet, relatively fast and reliable... Well, that's only my opinion though.
I'm also considering to upgrading my hard drive to a bigger one, and i'm opting for seagate. I heard that they will release a new mobile hardisk (7200 rpm) in couple of months...

Looking at that site, the Toshiba 16MB cache one didn't fare so well. Also, the Fujitsu one seems to have only a 1-year warranty for the 100GB model.

The writers of that article seem to definitely have a bias for Western Digital though.

Thanks for the replies so far though. I kind of get the hint that WD isn't too well-liked.

Does anyone know of any official dates for a 7200rpm HDD that is made by Seagate?

Shipping is $10 and insurance is $3. That makes it about $198. Sorry, I'd rather just buy it at CompUSA for a few dollars more. (Would be about $215 at CompUSA after tax)

Toshiba also makes 7200 RPM 16MB Cache notebook drives but.. they only come in 50GB also for some reason the Model designation is G A Y which goes in line well with there G A X series

Heh, peculiar name.

I believe 50 GB to be way too small, that's another reason I am looking into the slower 5400rpm drives. The Western Digital seems to be the most appealing to me so far in terms of performance (comparable to the momentus), price ($151), and power usage. I think I'll go with the 80 GB WD one. Now to see if there's any place better than newegg.

If you really need that 5% performance increase and don't care about loud noise over 5400rpm drives, then hitachi 7k60 (or the upcoming seagate 7200.2). Otherwise, your best option will be seagate 100gb 5400.2 momentus.
