Is my videocard really THAT bad?

I have a Satellite A75-S206, with the ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 IGP with 64megs of shared ram. I just bought Battlefield: Vietnam, and it runs like crap. I mean, the other specs on my laptop are still pretty good (P4 2.8 ghz, 512 megs ddr-ram). I turn the video settings all the way down to low with 800x600x16 resolution, and the framerate is still unplayable. I also have Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (a game that's a few years old), and it plays just decent. I mean, I know that my videocard's not the best, but is it normal for it to play like this? Thanks.

Umm.. probarbly... I should find out it runs on my brothers desktop with a Radeon 9200...

Standard questions - are you using the latest drivers, and have you tried the omega drivers...

The problem is you dont really have a video card. Shared memory just uses the system ram to power the video. Unlike a "real" video card which has its own ram. You should however be able to use 128MB of your system ram, but with only 512MB to begin with you might not see an increase in performance.

Yeah, I tried using 128 megs of ram for the videocard, but it didn't really do anything. However, there's only one set of drivers available for my card which are on the Toshiba website. I haven't tried the Omega drivers, though. What are they, and could they really increase the system's performance with games? Thanks.

The omega drivers are a set of custom drivers for graphics cards, they're based off the latest set of offical drivers with the benefit being you can install them on your laptop. Try them, the worst that can happen is that you start up in safe mode and have to install the original drivers.

sorry to say it, but yes...yes it is that bad. try the omega drivers and maybe they will help, but generally a 9000 series video card with shared memory is just not that great for gaming. i still hope for the best for you in your quest for gaming, but i would not hold out hope it simply cannot compete with a dedicated graphics card, especially the 9700 that is available in the p30/35 series machines.
