DVD Burner Question...

The thing is, i received a DVD Burner as a gift and would need to know if i should take out my DVD player or CD Burner? I can't add anymore drives since its being used. Will i be able to burn DVD's by using the CDRW drive to pull the data and burning it to my DVD Burner? Or am i just gonna have to take my CD Burner out and replace it with the DVD Burner?
