I've only gone and done it...(UK 7700)

I ordered myself an Area51m 7700!!!
After looking around and lurking on this excellent board I just couldn't resist, although being in the UK I keep reading a lot of bad things about the time it takes to complete a unit and to get it shipped. If anyone else from the UK who has received their "desktop replacement" could you please enlighten for me; I would be extrememly grateful. Cheers!!!

it takes a long time compared to going to bestbuy and buying an hp ... lol ... otherwise a month or whatever the wait is isn't all that bad.

Thanks for the reply, I'm just going to try and forget about it so that when it arrives, I'll be pleasantly surprised

Good luck I should be ordering my 7700 on the 27th of Febuary once I get my money back from a loan I gave out to a family member.

Let us know how you get on.

Just confirmed my method of payment, the lady said it should arrive about 3 weeks after they've received payment (fingers crossed)...

I've ordered one too, sent the payment and financing information via Fedex, and they signed for it this morning, so hopfully, sometime in the next month I should be recieving the 7700, a replacement for my desktop systems...I just hope that I have better luck than those who have posted horror stories about Alienware.

congrats guys...for every horror story there are easily 5000 happy as hell owners like me, just got my 7700 last week and have had no problems and odds are you won't either

I just hope I dont have the problems I've had with my Toshiba 6100, its on its third hard drive...other than that it has been a great system. 3 years on the first hd, and 1 month on the first, then failure, now I've got it back, but I'm really nervous about using it.

Goodluck, they told me three weeks now they are saying 5-6.

Hey nassaumike(or anyone else who owns one), what's it like for playing games? I've not read much about games performance apart from the Gamespot review, not much has been said in this forum (it's been mainly 3DMark stuff)

I am into the aviation games..Fighter aces specifically but I hear it it is great with all others and to be honest, I have not read one complaint but a few people have mentioned heat temps..I have no problems like that though

Cool, I can't wait to get HL2 up and running on this machine. I'm also partial to my flight sims as well.

Look up in the 7700 thread..a lot of the gammers posted benchmarks and temps and numerous raves about the 7700..I know you will be very happy with the performance..I love the Flight Sim 2004...plays flawlessly..
also in the "Reviews" section for lots of good info on the 7700

Well done Hulk mate. Ordered a 7700 on the same day as you in the UK:

Area-51m 7700
17" WideSXGA+ 1680 x 1050
P4 3.6GHz
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 PC-4200 533MHz
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Go with 256MB of DDR memory
Non RAID - 120GB (60GB x 2) 7200 RPM ATA100 - Hitachi

Will be interesting to see how the ship times compare - I got told 3 weeks also.

Wow, don't do it. There is not that much of a difference performance wise. I love my Dell. Alienware makes a great system, no doubt. You're a fan of one or the other. I personally am very happy with my XPS. Never had an issue ever. But I doubt anyone would do this trade.. Good luck.

Maybe somebody can enlighten me because I've always wondered about it. Why does it take so much longer for people in the UK to get their AW systems? I mean, it seems like the added delay should only come from the length of time that it takes to ship the thing overseas. Right? So that should really only add...what...another week or so to the total time it takes from order to delivery than it would for US buyers? Or am I missing something here...?

I'll probably be ordering a 7700 myself soon. I've never owned an AW laptop, but the 7700 is just too sexy to resist.

It takes longer to convert Euros to $$...maybe it ships on the QE2? Remember, all AW systems require the DB "seal of approval" which entails midget porn and the use of rubber material in a heat controlled enviorment

Hey Chancer dude, I hope it gets delivered no probs.
This is what I got:

Area-51m 7700 Case with 17" WideSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 LCD Display with Built-in Camera - Xeno Grey
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 560 w/ HT Technology 3.6GHz 1MB Cache
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 PC-4200 533MHz - 4x256MB
Extreme Performance - RAID 0 - 80GB (40GB x 2) 5400 RPM ATA100
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA

I really really REALLY hope it turns out alright. This happens to be my first Alienware so fingers crossed. CTSxVIPER, I couldn't resist, the laptop I'm currently using now is a Dell Inspiron 8500 -- had no problems with it, cool machine but I need something with a bit more oomph and style
