I've only gone and done it...(UK 7700) - Page 3

The worst bit is that by the time they're building our systems, the next gen version will be out in the US. There's always the temptation to say "If only I wait a bit longer, I could have the 6800 DDR3" or whatever

Of course, there's always going to be that "If I wait a bit longer, I could get a better system" but I look at it like this: If you keep waiting, you'll never buy. Of course if however you knew a high tech component were to be released in the immediate future, sure, hold out for it.
But if it's still being discussed e.g. when will AW incorporate the rival ATi card in their laptops or even AMD cpus, I would prefer a power system right now.

Hope that makes a little sense

cool i'm a uk user too, though i have a desktop area 51. It would be nice to have an EU forum for alienware (EU since all alienware computers for europe are made in Ireland, they come from the same place!!)

The reason why it takes longer is partly a reason because they have not sorted out their stocks and ordering yet, and partly because their EU operations aren't as big as you would think. If you phone them you'll often find you end up speaking to the same people, i would guess there are no more than 30-50 employees there, if that.

Hopefully you guys will love your computers, i'm still having a few lil problems with mine

Aurora I'm 100% up for the UK section!!!
I was supposed to get my 7700 on Friday, but I only recieved the sound system...DHL says the Laptop will come Monday. Well I just think many more people are starting to buy computers from AW UK and joining the forums, so the experienced users who went through the phase games and such can help the "young padawans".

Yup, seen it whilst researching, but somehow I was drawn to the lure of Alienware (not that it's a bad thing). I hear really good comments about Alienware so I'm really counting on the fact that it [7700] arrives in an irreproachable condition. Moreover, I have read that the X800 is not properly implemented in the design of the laptop -- overheating issues and such, but just so as I am not completely ignorant, I am fully aware of similar faults with the 7700. *But*, the Nvidia graphics card runs cooler and more stable than ATi's card, which led me to conclude that even if both laptops run hot, then at least the 7700 won't be running just as hot as the X800 version.

If anyone knows any better, by all means correct me.

Hey AwesomE - I looked at Rock - they have the new Quaddra Ti Extreme out - also based on the Clevo chassis like the AW 7700, but .... it is just so boring to look at - and when I did my comparisons of Rock vs Savrow vs Alienware vs MV (all based on the same basic chassis); well, you make up your own mind there - but I did a test configuration online of equivalent machines and the AW came out way better on price

I have a Rock at the moment - in its time (2 years ago) it was the latest and greatest. They are not bad as a company - never had any bother from it, but Rock are just a kit seller: spares are sadly lacking and all your support comes from an outsourced warranty provider (who are no real help, and I end up hunting down any patches/updates etc myself rather than wait to see if they have got them). No complaints with them - they just didn't light any fires for me - and I kinda fancy a little more than a mere dull grey slab when I shell out the best part of 2.5 grand! It was AW all the way for me.

Hi,
Everyone to thier own i suppose, but gotta tell you Alienware aftersales services are outsourced to india (heard scare stories of serious miscommuniction ). At least Rock doas 3 years free warrenty pick and return to base in the uk & thier own forums are always open to public scruitiny-why not alienwares? Personally i would rather spend the best part of 2.5 grand on a machine that i know can be sent off for repairs/upgrades inland (and in shortest period of time), also within driving distance to give them a bollocking in person if anything goas wrong
At the end of the day where all winners-its an 'AwesomE' machine whether you got the alien eyes on it or not...but gotta say those alien eyes do look cool..maybe i can stick my own on?

I would be up for a UK Alienware forum. I would love a 7700 but they are just TOO big
post #52 of 57
We really do need a UK forum soon! While they are the same company there appears to be obvious differences between AW UK/EU and AW USA. I had to post asking for UK buyers opinions cos im not interested in what the yank service is like!

The above quote is NOT true. Alienware does not outsource any of its Technical Support or CS. Everything is completely operated by Alienware Corp.
