Toshiba A70 - laptop sound isn't very loud - Application to boost ?

Hi ?

So I am running a Toshiba A70 and the maximum sound out of my speakers doesn't seem to be that loud.

mp3 and music playback is alright at most times but DVD is fairly quiet.

I have external desktop speakers hooked up to the laptop from the headphones jack. These also aren't very loud.

I have looked at ALL of the settings I know of (both 3rd party volume levels in Winamp and also the levels in Windows).

My last resort is to ask if there is a program that actually boosts the level that the computer outputs ? I know that I dont want to do this with my laptop speakers cuz it probably will blow them but I do know the big desktop speakers can go much louder. (Also I am not in the situation to hook up to an AMP or anything, so this is not an option for me at this time).

My roomates IBM pII 350 laptop seems to have even louder speakers than my toshiba,,

anyways if someone can reccomend a program or better solution, I'd appreciate it, thanks

audio fix

Unfortunately, there is no software that can help you in the manner that you need. The only thing you can due is get a better sound card. The problem with your laptop is that you most likely have a 16-bit or less sound processor with less than 100dB of sensitivity, so it will not get loud like you want, even when hooked up to an external sound system (unless you turn up the volume on those speakers alot). What you can do is get ahold of a pcmcia soundcard, like the audigy 2 (from newegg or something), or you can go with an external soundcard as well, creative is top notch in this area. The problem with your laptop speakers will never change, though. They are only able to use the integrated sound processor which is soddered to the motherboard. These soundcard upgrade options will help SUBSTANTIALLY with headphones and external speakers, it will really be no comparison.

My Laptop (eMachines m6805) has a control panel applet called 'Sound Effect Manager' which includes an equalizer. If yours does too, you could set all the sliders in the EQ higher, boosting audio output but possibly sacrificing 'flatness', not a problem for the built in speakers...

Although it appears that the Audigy would be a considerable upgrade for you, to say that Creative products are "top notch" is not accurate.

Creative products are good for gamers who just need some decent sound, but beyond that, should not be considered "high-end" by any means.

BSPlayer ... it has a software based amplifier/equalizer (EQ). Play your audio/video media using it instead.
