They say I can upgrade to a 2.13GHz P4M for another £130 + VAT. And the best thing? They've given me an estimated shipping date of 20/02/2005. I can't wait.

Any advice about the 2 -> 2.13 CPU upgrade? My order isn't going into production until after the weekend, so I need to decide in the next couple of days. I normally buy one below the top-of-range spec since that makes the most economic sense, but £130 isn't much more. Will the extra 0.13 Ghz make any noticable difference?

It would be quite hard to tell the diff between 2 & 2.13GHz in normal day-to-day use. Also, you could always upgrade to the 770 or faster when the prices drop on the newer Pentium M's.

2nd Battery in M70

Can someone clear up for me whether or not you will have the option to install a second battery in the M70?

Yes, you can install a 6 cell secondary battery into the Media Bay.

Looks like the M70 ships without a D/Bay (powered USB) port as well...
The lack of a D/Bay Port or Firewire seems silly.
By the way, what have y'all heard about the Intel 2915 a/b/g? The only difference I can find is that it consumes 80mW when it's idle but associated, as compared to the 740mW of the TM 1350/1450. However, the TM 1350/1450 consumes just 20mW when the radio is disabled, as compared to 80mW of the Intel 2200/2915.
Looks like the extremely low associated idle consumption of the Intel 2200/2915 is responsible for their connectivity problems in battery mode.

You don't get the 250 off or free double memory with it though Otherwise, I would be jumping on this deal.
The double free memory is ONLY 2x256M... which probably isn't a good deal for an M70. Also, when you consider the cost of the port replicator and the 2005FPW monitor, it's worth much, much more than the $250 off. But of course, if you don't want the monitor or port replicator, you can at least get the $250 off... but that double memory thing just seems stupid. Just my opinion.
here you can see some test of profesionnal applications with an fx go 1400: http://www.spec.org/gpc/apc.data/Dell/m70/
you can also see on nvidia website they give some score.
I agree, the double memory sucks. However, I'd rather have it than not have it I don't need the port replicator but would like the monitor. I might call and see if I can get something other than the port replicator instead. They have been known to do that when selling a computer with a free printer.

I know a lot of people talk about how much they "get" out of Dell. However, I find it funny about how many people complain about them. Seems they at least try to make up for any problems. I canceled my $250 off order and went for the 2005fpw + port replicator (since it's all stuck until March anyhow). Let me know if you were able to "get" something better... my encourage me to fight harder next time!

Sweet! AFAIK, Win2003 SP1 RTM should happen toward the end of this month...

Oh, you mean I missed RC2? Still on RC1 here...
Next spring I may put 2003 on my M60... is there any performance or stability benefit to running 2003 over XP Pro SP2?

On that note, are most programs compatible with both ("most programs" being Pro/E, AIM, Firefox, Reader, Winamp, PowerDVD)

Hi Guys. Could someone give me there opinion on the M70 wsxga+ or uxga screen. I just bought a i9300 and the sparkle on it is killing me. Give's me a headache and eye strain. I was goning to use it for modeling in Maya, XSI and ZBrush. (ironically i wasn't gonna play much if any games on it !) I was going to get a M70, but thought the i9300 was a good deal. What a pratt i feel now. So, i going to see if i can get it returned for a M70. So it'd be great if you all could help me out...

Thanks again..
