pcmcia sound card sound improvement???

I just got a pair of klipsch promedia ultra 2.0 speakers for my laptop (fujitsu n6010) and just wanted to know how much of a difference adding a pcmcia (looking at creative audigy notebook) sound card is gonna make. is it worth the $120 price tag? thanks

I have the Echo Indigo (PCMCIA) for $99 and it is definetly worth it.

popping issues aside, is the sound quality of the indigo better than the creative audigy? and does anyone know whether or not creative have fixed the popping problem.

I do not believe the popping issue has been fixed. Creative tends to be a take-it-or-leave it company when it comes to support.

As far as sound quality, the Echo Indigo is closer to being a professional card than the Audigy, doesn't require exceptionally freaky software, and sounds as good or better than the Audigy ever will.

Anyone who does any kind of *legitimate* audio work will tell you that the Echo cards blow away anything the Audigy has...

S/N ratios...freq. response...dynamic range...

simply put...I have not heard a cleaner input on a soundcard (PC or LT) than the echo brand...

The only advantage (and only reason I got it) that the Audigy has is support for the newest surround sound standards in games.

Though I'm not sure what the popping issue is. Haven't noticed any problems on my Audigy like that. Only issue I did have was when it first came out, it liked switching from 5.1 speakers back to 2 speakers for no reason at bootup. The first driver revision fixed that problem.
