my misery is your luck if you own a Sager 5660 or anything with compatible parts.
My 5660 recently had its vidcard go bad (I think, otherwise some other problem caused the mobo to go bad--still trying to confirm that with Sager). It would cost me like $450 to replace the mobo, or like $800 to upgrade it to a 5690, neither of which seem worth the cost to me. So I am going to just ask them to ship it back to me.
I need to pull the data off of my hard drive and I think I will salvage one recently purchased stick of 512 megs of PC2700 ram from it to put into my 3790 (which also uses PC2700). I may try to salvage the hard drive by putting it into an old computer that had a hard drive go bad, but probably will part with the hard drive too if it helps entice someone to pay good money for what remains of this computer. I think the HD is 40 Gigs and 4000 something RPMs (I will get the brand and model info).
Basically, it is a good purchase for someone who already owns a 5660 or 5670. I have 2 power supplies, both of which are in good condition, and those are frequently going bad on 5660s and 5670s, so it is good to have spares. The battery I had replaced under warranty (I will get the exact date when) so it is not as old as the rest of the computer, which was purchased originally in Nov. 2002. It never hurts to have a spare battery. The CPU is also good and removable from the mobo. I am pretty sure it is a Pent 4, 2.4 GHz (no hyperthreading sorry). I will get the precise specs on that. It also has a working floppy disk drive and CDRW/DVD drive (only burns CDs not DVDs sorry--I will get the brand, model, and speed info for it). The screen is also in good condition (no stuck pixels that I ever noticed and 15 inch SXGA I believe). So if you own a 5660 or 5670 and you had a power supply or battery, or screen, or keyboard, or CDRW/DVD or floppy drive, etc., go bad then this could be a great opportunity for you to fix yours for cheap. Also if you are looking to increase the RAM on your 5660 or 5670, the original stick of 512 megs of PC2100 Kingmax RAM will come in handy.
I am hoping to get at least $130 for this stuff, because I had to spend that much to ship it to Sager and back and to pay their $80 service fee for them to say "yup the mobo is toast." I know the power supplies cost like $90 or $100 each from Sager, and a 512 meg stick of any kind of compatible RAM is going to run you at least $60. I will email digital photos of whatever parts you want to see.
I expect to have it back from Sager within 2 weeks, then will post photos etc. I have never sold anything online before, so for trustworthiness of seller I hope it will be sufficient to provide adequate proof of my identity. My being a lawyer that could get disbarred if I ever scammed anyone etc. should help reassure you (hopefully my being a lawyer won't cause you to trust me even less
). I want to at least try to sell the stuff here before going to the trouble of figuring out how to sell it on ebay. PM me or post in this thread if you are interested.

The 5660 still has the original 512 megs of PC2100 RAM. I believe it is a Kingmax chip. anyway, that leaves 2 power supplies, and everything original to a 5660 minus the hard drive, and the mobo is toast. so if you have a compatible laptop, you could use the screen (still great condition no stuck pixels), the keyboard, the battery, or the power supplies as replacement parts. The CPU is a desktop Pentium 4 I think 2.4 or 2.6 GHz. I assume it still works and that what went bad on the mobo was the graphics processor. Anyway, if you need spare parts for a 5660 or compatible laptop, I'm ready to wheel and deal real cheap. any reasonable offer will be considered. Will sell parts separately or together. just PM me if interested. Thanks.
