This would have been the best laptop to buy only if it had the MRX800 as a GPU option .....I wish HP could add that as a option.

what is the difference between the x 600 and the x 800 gpu?

X600 is just the mobility radeon 9700 in a PCI express form

Yeah...I know...The X800 will have double the performance..
But for the money I had available the zd8000 fell right in the perfect range. It was either a 9700 128MB or X600 256MB so.....I decided to try it. I've owned a zd7000 previous and thought the 5700 was mediocre...but I loved the laptop itself...so I'm hoping just for a pickup from the GPU end.

Hello i got mine and i love it. Plays doom 3 and hl2 with all the extras just fine. Appz are fast.....but i got a 4200 100 gb hd....for gamers this is not recommended cause load times are long. I will post my pics again...but there not the best pics. It will be in the pic section.

Sounds good, but I've got two questions: what video card do you have and what's your 3DMark scores (01, 03, and/or 05)? Thanks in advance!

01 11,118 score
03 3155 sore
05 1313 score

No problem, I'll keep everyone informed.

JDTheMan: I know the zd8000 does not come with the option for the X800.
BUT the way the graphics card is configured on the side of the
laptop in card-slot form tells me that HP may make an attempt at
selling upgrade GPU's. If they do..cool, if they don't that's okay too
Either way, I think I'll be happy for now....and I mean....lol...for now.

ferrarimanf355..
I'll O/C in the fashion I always do with a custom driver, ATI Tool, and the SpeedfaN program. I believe, I can get higher scores...I'll update as soon as it arrives.

Naturally, if we all have the budget.....We would have a MRX800 but with it's current sticker price...many of us have to do the best with what we have. If you can afford it at it's current sticker price more power to you.

Quick Quesiton:
HOW LOUD is this beast? I am intend to leave it on the desk on most of the time. Do you hear fans's noise constantly?
Yeah the x600 is weak compared to the x800 but the 600 will get you where you needs to go. Right? Exactly....the fan is loud but you don't hear it constantly. Its a smart fan that comes when the machine gets too hot...
