Anyone have a zd8000 yet? - Page 2

mcyi....
I'll have the zd8000 Thursday....so I can confirm some stuff for you but I have owned almost every mobile card out (including the MR9800 256MB) and I'm sure the X600 will perform as well as the MR9700. I'm hoping with the right mixture of a modded driver/Ati Tool/SpeedFan I'll be able to achieve a comfortable O/C on this card...I see scores of mid 3K's for 3Dmark03 everywhere but I'm sure I can break 4K with the system just right. "Now" Although I was able to achieve close to 8K with my MR9800 on a i9100....I experienced alot of instability with this card and to achive the 8K O/C I had to have the fans kickin' on full and my temps were still hitting the roof. But having experienced all the mobile cards I have....I now recognize that you'll need a least a score of 3K on 3Dmark03 to be able to play today's games at a satisfactory level.

What games are you zd8000 owners running?

Games I'm currently playing:
HL2, SOF2, NSFU2, COD/Revolt, FlatOut, Matrix Online & Multiplayer Vice City.

Nah....

No TV tuner here.....only because
I already have a USB 2.0 tuner and only use it when the hurricanes..
hit us here in FL.......or if I'm traveling which is rarely. For me, this "zd"
is more for moderate gaming and ton of surfing. Anyhow's I'm currently
loading up my game roster as I type this...
I've also installed a modded driver (not Omega) and have loaded Ati Tool/SpeedFan and am ready for a little "testing".

I was at the computer repair shop today...and me and the owner were talking...we are going to make it our mission to get an X800 in my zd8000. If I ever get it in and it works. I'll write a tutorial on it! Wish us luck. And UN I can't wait to see your benchmarks! Don't you love my sig pic?

Im buying a zd8000 also in the next 2 weeks, and i am excited. Im debating on the 3.0, 3.2 or 3.4 ghz processors. I plan on playing the above mentioned games but any money I can save is a good thing.

Also my configurations are only allowing me to choose between 256, 512 and 2044 mb of RAM. I think my best option is to buy the 256mb and then replace it with my own 1024 that I find at pricewatch.

I also agree that its too bad that the x800 isnt offered, Actually isnt the x850 now available? Is there any laptop anyone knows about that could beat out these configurations that weve made for a price under $2000?

I hate the design of the HP. The Sony, Toshiba and even Compaq models have much cooler shapes and designs, but its whats inside...

Great thread.

Well....Guys...
I called HP and returned my zd8000 bought on 1/28/05
They will pick it up tomm. I don't know if I'll be able to scrape
up enough $$$ for the XPS2 but I know I can surely drop into a 9300.
Anyhow's the XPS2 is at a great price right now and I doubt that price will last 2 weeks....Well, At least my goal is set. ...Now, it's just being without a lappy for 3-4weeks will be surely be a test of my sanity.

HP ZD8000 arrived misconfigured, remote missing, etc

Have had my zd8000 for 3 weeks - received without the Microsoft remote (only the small HP one) so no way to try Media Center since I can't complete setup, no documentation for MC or the tuner received either. HP service doesn't seem to know what's going on, received several supposed solutions that didn't answer questions - HD is supposed to be 7200 - 60 GB, but packing list says 4500, 60 GB - internal diagnostics check shows I have the 7200 I ordered but HP didn't offer to show me how to figure it out, just offered to replace the laptop (& have me spend more money in the process) so I will probably return it next week since they cannot get me the original remote in a reasonable amount of time - sure would like to try out the Media Center with the tuner . . . . . but the system is great, video on the 17" screen fantastic - probably why I'm hesitating . . . but it's too much money to throw away on a product that isn't quite what I wanted (I also received the wireless adapter with Bluetooth instead of the one with SpeedBooster (to go with the router I just bought), so needless to say they don't always include the correct products ordered. Any suggestion for a new one if I return it?

Go Dell..
if you look at my signature, I've owned alot of Dell's. I feel aside from the mistake they made with the 9200, they have been really great at providing good products. If you must have a TV tuner oriented laptop I guess look into the Toshiba Quismo. Right now my own decision comes down to:

1. Sager 9860
2. XPS2
3. i9300

Good Luck!

Yeah....
They picked it up Friday. I'm hoping to get the money back in the account by the end of the week. What really made me change my mind was the on foutrth of the XPS2, ect.. I'm deciding between a 9860, XPS2 or 9300. How about you? what are you buying now?
