The Sony X-Brites have 2 fluorescents, which is why they are so bright. I've wondered if it's possible to change the panel in a i9200 to one not supplied by Dell. In the case of the X-Brite, I think these screens require two inverters.

I asked Dell for a return authorization on a second i9200. They said to please try a third one, and if it's still not ok then return it. I guess they must be getting alot of these back.
Actually, funny thing happened. When I called dell, their representative listened and then she asked me to repeat again what I don't like about the screen, and then she just listened without saying a word. Something tells me she was recording my complains, which I hope she did, so they do something. By the time she asked me to repeat everything I had been compaining for like 15 minutes, so I think/hope she wanted a repeat for somebody else.
The worst thing is that I see alot of high end 9200s on ebay. I'm talking gigs of ram and 2 ghz processors.
Poor things. Now that's a scary thought to get one of those off ebay.

If the i9300 comes out with better LCDs, I think that will escalate. It's sad, because the i9200 is a nice improvement over the previous designs and otherwise has good components. OTH, a 3 or 4 month life doesn't sound like Dell intended a long term commitment.

As for cnet - yea I also read all mainstream reviews on 9200, and they simply never mention the screen. As for "rushing 9200 in", I dunno really, because the screen (LG one) is NOT bad, its just dreadful. The samsung one would go for "rushing the product with a crappy screen in too early".
That's to fu**ing bad you can't read english when it's in front of your nose

There are several posts with people that love thier screens, and im one of them. I have the Y4014 and its perfect, sure there is slight sparkle on white backrounds if i stick my face a few inches from the screen. It seems like your trying to say that every screen "sucks"...have you seen every screen?

Lets stop making new posts when we whole posts exactly about this problem, search

EDIT: have you determined what part number screen you have?

Yes, as I said - I've seen both samsung (the "Y") and LG (the "W" series). And yes, LG is just horrendous, and Samsung is just bad.
And again, as I already said - if you only have 1 screen, then there is nothing to compare it to, sure you'll think its ok, or "just some sparkling" or whatever. In addition to that that your laptop, yea, you paid money for it, you're stuck with it, so sure you'll try to convince yourself that your screen is "fine" or evern "perfect".
My point is to compare it to a decent screen, the closest model is 9100 with WUXGA, and yet the difference is huge, even when you take 9200's "Y", Samsung that is.

Actually he isn't the only one that has trouble understanding what you say, that last post was the only one of yours that I have fully understood thus far .

I agree Postal, I don't think anyone could mistake the meaning of that post. I am with you though, this is the first post of Chazzy's I have really understood. Babelfish anyone?

Cheers

PS: No offense Chazzy, but I will try and scrub up on my english and see how I go with your future posts.

Well if i didnt think that the screen was "fine" or "perfect" i would have returned it during my 21 days. I have no need to try and convince myself, and its the 3rd laptop in my household.

I was under the impression that there were more then one Y screen and more then one W screen, but now im thinking not? my fault

Well, it really is creepy there. Seems that the "Y" series is the only one. And if you get "Y" - you almost certainly have a better Samsung.
After that it get worse. For LG there are 2 - W5412 and W4554. Yet some people report that their "W"s are really Sansungs.
Well, knoppix to rescue!
LPL00000 panel is LG
SEC00000 is Samsung.
And let me repeat myself again - Samsung one is no panacea, yea, it better then LG, but anything is better then LG.
I don't know about you, but I'm buying an xbrite or truebrite or any other clone with high brightness. And I hope that dell adopts the technology.

I agree!!

bbstls, you need to just go buy a sony then and give it a rest. I get sick of hearing so many people whine and complain. If you arent happy with the product you simply return it. The 9200 is an excellent computer if you get a good screen. I got a Samsung WXGA. I compared it with everything at Best Buy and absolutely nothing could beat my computer for the price. The Toshiba Qosmio had a better screen but that is also an expensive laptop. The 9200 may not have the best screen but it sure as heck doesnt have the worst either!!

Some WXGA are better than others too. I've had two different Samsung X4766 and one was substantially better than the other. It's one of the best/brightest LCD's i've ever used. I have compared it with many different desktop lcd screens and mine always looks better. It all depends on what you get, so dont go judging every one of them as pile of crap. Enough said!

Also, for someone with an 8600 who thinks they rushed the 9200 into production.. you really have no idea what your talking about. Trying to compare an 8600 to a 9200 is like comparing a Hyundai to a BMW. They're two different beasts.

BBSTLS, I am going to have to say that you just got some bad screens. I did a test with what I had available and I thought all the screens looked great. I put up a 8600 with WUXGA, an 8600 with WSXGA, an 8600 with WXGA and my I9200 with WXGA. I really thought that all the screens looked ok. Maybe you are only refering to the WUXGA on the 9200, but you gave the impression that ALL displays for the 9200 sucked. If you are saying that that all suck, then you are just wrong!!

BTW: In case you think I may be full of it, I can produce that many laptops because I run an IT shop for a small business. We have 14 8600s with varying screen resolutions. And about 125 desktops with 8 servers. The I9200 was my christmas present from the boss. I think he felt guilty because he doesn't pay me what I am worth. Or he got it for me because he doesn't want me to leave.
