here is my problem, every now and again when my laptop starts up it wont leave the "compaq" screen, when i hit the escape key to see whats going on behind the screen, i notice that it is trying to detect my dvd-rom, and every now and again it comes up with really strange charactors (my dvd rom was encoded by aliens), also when this happens, the read light on my dvd rom stays steady. to further add to my suspsion that the dvd rom is going bad, every now and again, when the darn thing starts up right windows will locate new dvd rom drivers, recignizing it as a new device.
I have contacted HP about this, and they keep telling me i just need to flash my bios....bull shit (i tryed it anyway, and as i figured it didnt work), Ive been toyalling in computers almost all my life, and have had 2 years of college in this field, so i kinda know what im doing
my main question is, is there anyone else out there that had this problem, and if so, is there any other way of fixing it, other then sending the machine back to HP and demading that they put a new dvd rom in it. i would take take of it my self if i could swap out the damn drive, but its built in
