just a general question when people are spending $2000+ on laptops, what would your biggest fear be?

Mine i would have to say is:: dead pixels

sometimes i try to buy from futureshop here in canada cause they take things back in the first 15 days with no restockin fees, but now that i want an acer 8104 (might return my sony) i am afraid of dead pixels!!

i think all users should unit and complain our heads out

state your fears

I agree, dead/stuck pixels is what worries me unless I'm buying a Dell. If all vendors had return policies like Dell it would be less of a concern.

That said, of the 7 laptops I've had over the years I've yet to get one with a dead pixel, it's just the thought of having this pixel in an irritating spot that scares the bejeezus out of me. I have a cheapo 15" LCD that I got for my kids' computer that has a stuck blue pixel about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom and it drives me absolutely nuts every time I have to look at it and I'd hate to repeat the experience with a significantly more expensive piece of hardware.

Answering to the topic.. My biggest fear when being a laptop is.. being in some fat guys hands.. Although my ring of shape-changing doesn't allow me to take on complex shapes, like a laptop, I sometimes take on the shape of the outside enclosure, in case some hot chick wants to put me on her lap..

Freaking dead pixels! Dead center screen or at the corner, my eye is automatically drawn to it every time.

I think my biggest fear is the dreaded 'dead/stuck pixels', followed closely by bad/slow customer/tech service.

It is hard for me to put out over $1500 and not expect good service and a perfect laptop.

That is my biggest fear. Who would want to be a laptop. You get pounded on (keyboard), thrown in a dark space fairly often (laptop bag), toted around everywhere and shown off (when you first get it), and then after a relatively short period of time you're past your prime and essentially junk.

If I wanted all of that, I'd just be Tina Turner

purchasing Sony laptop

I would absolutely hate to get a bad pixel, but one of my fears for purchasing anything is CRAZY DELIVERY PEOPLE leaving expensive packages unsigned for and out in the open yard where my dogs can tear into them.

lol i just read what i put for the title lol

but honestly i hate spending money and then seeing dead pixels and companies saying that is a misfire whereas it really it a defect

anyway, more companies have to realize this, i would hate looking at a screen with a blue or red or whatever colour it is at me!

I have a bad habit of buying things that don't work. Router, wireless cards, wireless expander, mouse, etc. First I worry its going to be doa and then I have to spend more time waiting for another one. Then I worry how I was being a tightwad and didn't fork over the extra $85 for overnight shipping. Who knows how them ground shipping guys are treating/throwing around my laptop. Its been 4 days and the UPS tracking site has not been changed yet. I'm worried they'll knock some wires/parts loose and I'm too chicken to open it and fix it. Then I worry about the dead pixels when I actually do get my hands on it. Then I worry about the blue screens. I'm a mess...is there a psychiatrist here to help me.

My biggest fear has already come true, so many great notebooks and 98% of them come in silver.

Black laptops seem to be all but extinct.

I remember a time when cool electronics meant black. Now it means silver... and I don't really understand why. It's almost impossible to buy a stereo that doesn't look like a space-ship these days unless you're going to spend a truly obscene amount of money on it. Yet another reason why I'm disinclined to buying a powerbook, I suppose.

Black seems to be extinct? Hrmm, dont know about that as my Sony X505 looks blackish to me. Just got my Fujitsu P7010D and its as black as black can be. The Thinkpads are all black. My Inspiron 8000 was black. I have a bad habit of buying black lappys.

As for my biggest fear if I were a laptop would be....DRINKS!!! Seeing some college kids or a person eating a burger in one hand and a Coke in the other, with greasy hands that was busy typing or gaming or what not. I would be like, "Hey watch it buddy!!!! Dont think about touching me with those greasy hands! I KNOW your not waving that drink around like that! Dont make me go up there and smack you with my screen boy!"
