actually i have a friend that is interested. how much total would it be shipped to the US? how long would it take to ship?

What im concerned about is the 7200 Hdd you added. How does it respond to battery life - general heat - and noise? 7200 is lil much for a laptop, but its exactly what i need for my vid editing... im still on the fence about buying that Acer.

only thing it adds is heat, which i havnt noticed at all. theres a review over at toms hardwear that shows 4200 vs 5400 vs 7200 hdd's and the 7200 hdd had the same battery life as the 5400. ie it didnt effect battery life at all.

Did you say you bought a barebone 8104? Where? I don't see one on Computer Brain.

What happened to these questions?

2. The screenshot of those games doesnt, at all, look better than an ATI 9700. If you can, may you take a screenshot that really brings out the justice of the GPU.

3.Like everyone else who is dying to know, is the keyboard good and how is the heat issue for the touchpad?

So is anyone going to answer these questions, except #3?

Not likely, if no one has answered in 3 months. It's a voluntary forum, and if no one volunteers info, it's not to be taken personally.

I got a lot of hits via Google for sonoma vs. P4.

Screenshots don't always reproduce accurately, and quality also involves personal opinion of the observer. I'm quite happy with mine, and HL2 I think is the best example I've seen to observe if you can.

what game would you like to see? the reason why its not going to look much better than a 9700 is that you're only going to look as good as the game lets you. in all those screen shots everything was on high. the games i have on my pc right now are :
jedi knight 2, rise of nations, steam (cs, sourse, hl2, etc) GTA: vice city, warcraft 3, quake 3, and empire earth 2. which one would you like to see?

What was mistariceboi talking about? I don't see any barebones 8104s.
He meant desktop computers. The only things he could find in the computer category was the barebone desktop. At least I believe that's what he was talking about.

I am starting with a new job and the new company is partially paying for me to purchase a laptop, and I found the Acer 8104 onsale at Buy.com for $1629.99 so that's what I went with.....and from reading about the 8104 here and elsewhere, it seems I've made a good choice, although I don't expect my 8104 until the end of this week....**crosses fingers**

Yet another reason I am SO glad I went with the Acer 8104....this feature needs to be implemented in more laptops....I hated laptops because of my tendancy to move things with that "accidental" swipe on the touchpad while typing. MrMsyvc, thanks for telling me this.....

I am going to be playing BF2 and HL2 (and various mods: CS:S and DOD:S)....and from what I hear, HL2 runs very good, but I have yet to hear anyone speak on BF2....In my desktop, I am running an overclocked AMD XP-M 2400 CPU, 1GB of Dual-Channel DDR, and a 256MB ATI 9800XT... and can play BF2 on 1024x768 with everything on medium....and it's smooth as can be.....if I can get this laptop to run that, then I just may very well hand my desktop down to my oldest daughter and just migrate things to my laptop.... ....anyone been able to play BF2 on the 8104?
