Video Resolution

Thread Starter
Anyone have any idea when Apple will up the video res on their laptop LCD screens?

I've seen the PowerBooks refreshed half a dozen times -- but the LCDs are always the same WXGA res. I don't get it.

Thoughts?

Apple does it intentionally because they've researched other screen resolutions and came to the conclusion that 100 dpi is the most comfortable resolution to read and constantly use.

are you sure the 15 isn't 1152, or was that the tibook res?

Old TiBooks were 1152x768. It was increased to 1280x854 when the 800Mhz model came out. The easy way to tell is the DVI equipped TiBooks were the ones with 1280x854 LCDs.

Hmm, looks like maybe sometime in the future Apple may indeed offer multiple resolutions like many PC laptops.

This image is right out of the newest 17 inch Powerbook manual:

In case the image dies, it says:
Quote:
Depending on how your PowerBook was configured, it may have a wide-screen display that has a “native” resolution of 1920 x 1200 or 1440 x 900. For either of these native resolutions, other standard resolutions, such as 1024 x 768, are supported.
Older manuals for the previous revision simply said:

So much for their carefully researched comfortable resolution crap. I'm very surprised that Apple would kowtow to people who want higher resolutions like that.

Where'd you get the scan from?
