You just changed my opinion on HP, I want one.

Can you tell me how the fan noise is? I have read that they can get pretty loud when they rev up. I recently sold my 1.33GHz 17" Powerbook and am trying to decide if I should get the new just released 17" Powerbook or a nice 17" PC notebook. I did see the zd8000 at MicroCenter and it looks very nice to me, I love the display, the reolution and a totally loaded zd8000 with the 3.6GHz P4, X600 256mb video card and 60gb 7200rpm hard drive is the same price as the Powerbook.

I've got the ZD7000 (the ZD8000 is about the same) - the fan is smooth and unoticable until I stress the GPU playing games or CPU with a large build - then the fan kicks in and sounds like a low end whoosh - I then use an Altoid can to prop up the bottom for better air flow and then it goes back to the smooth blow. Lets face it these puppies are true DTR and need their air cooling when they are stressed. But for MS Office, burning, ripping, surfin - I hardly notice the fan.

I have the zd7000...
3.06 P4
1 Gig of Ram
128 5600 Go GPU

I have been offered $1200 for the computer. Who out there thinks the fully loaded zd8000 is worth the upgrade? I am a gamer, and I plan on playing BF:2 and Rainbow 6 4 when they are released in the spring/summer.

To those who own or owned a zd7000 and have already upgraded, what significant improvements have you experienced?

Thank you!
I've upgraded from the zd7000 to the zd8000
only because of the X600 256MB.
Although mine is still in production, I am very confident I'll
be satisfied. My game list includeds Matrix Online (I'm in Beta), NSFU2, SOF2, COD, FlatOut, FarCry & Multiplayer Vice-City. Anyhow's in my opinion...go for it

From the pictures, it looks as if the screen has been updated/graded...Is this true?
It look more glossy...

Man I wish I had not waited for the Dell products to be released...I would have gotten the HP already if I had ordered it when it was first released!

BTW, I live in south Florida too....

JDtheman, can you post a picture of the bottom of the computer or just a picture of the battery...I want to be sure it is the same as the 7000 as I have several extra batteries on hand. Thanks!

Howdy neighbor.....lol.

I like Dell but know that the 9300 w/ the X800 256MB will
run a nice chunk of change so I adopted for what was available...
I have high asperations....

Well you hit the nail on the head there...

I was waiting for the 9300 with the x800 plus the new M chip...better battery life.
But like I said, I would have already had the HP if I had ordered it the day it came out.

You win some and you lose some...now all I want is some feedback from users of both machines
...

Here's some feedback - the ZD8000 is about $150 cheaper than the ZD7000 was when I bought it with the similar config in Nov. and I got a decent deal then too ;-(

I am not talking about the price...

I've seen both the Dell Inspiron 9200 and the HP zd8000 in person, the Inspiron 9300 will use the same case as the 9200. In my opinion the HP is the nicer design, I actually do like the design of the Dell but after seeing the HP I think it is asthetically more pleasing and it has the number keypad which the Dell does not. I never thought I'd say this as I never thought I'd buy an HP laptop. Today I saw both the zd8060 and zd8080 at CompUSA but if I decide to get the zd8000 I'll buy it direct from HP, the price is actually better for a fully tricked out zd8000 directly from HP.
I'm deciding if I should get the 60gb 7200rpm HD or the 100gb 5400rpm HD. I wonder if I'll see the performance gain of the 60gb 7200rpm HD.

I wonder the same. I do a lot of video editing and also wonder if the 60GB HD will hold enough information. Does anyone know what format the DVR records to? mpeg2, maybe?

Hello all sorry i havent responded in a while but it was 2 days before someone replied. After that i really didnt follow up. Here is my story with the hp laptops.

Laptop#1
zd7160us
p4 3 ghz ht
512
fx 5200 go
60 gb hd 4200

This laptop lasted about 3 months before i needed a replacement. The AC adapter to charge the battery the connection wore out and didnt get a connection from the charger. This connection was in the laptop it self.

LAPTOP#2

spame specs and model

This happened yet again and required replacement.

LAPTOP #3
zd7260us

p4 3.2 ht
fx5700 go 64 mb
512 ram
80 gb hd 4200
dvd burner

This laptop was one of the better one that I have ever been on. Fast and it played games.....kind of. This one the videocard failed and the screen didnt turn on when you hit the power button.

LAPTOP #4 current

zd8000us custom

This is the ultimite laptop. The did alot of redesigns. Venting, ports, disc reader, battery, chargeing system, and among onther thing have been inproved. They have inscresed the fans to 3 instead of 2. It is way quiter then the old 7000. The biggest thing i like to brag about is this x600 video card. It plays everything to full potential. The actuacl card is on the right side of the laptop above the digital usb slot. Now I was wondering if anyone could figure out of this card can be taken out and replaced. For faulty reasons. For those who are looking for a good laptop this is the one if your home/college reasons. Those who have ordered and are waiting.....it will be better then what you expect. Those of you who are choosing....i recommend hp but if your going to get a hp get it from like best buy or circuit city. HP tech support people dont speak english. And e mail support is not any better. No hp_owner its my crap camera the screen is the same from the zd7260us. I appricate all of the replies...Thanks. If aonyone has any questions contact me via AIM sn= JDwhatupAD.

The zd8000 looks like an awesome laptop, especially coming from a mainstream provider. But I have a question about the screen -- how does it compare to the bright glossy screens of the Sonys and Fujitsus? Is the contrast of the zd8000 as high (dark blacks, bright colors) as them?
CAn anyone provide a picture of the under side of the 8000???
PLEASE!
