HP zd8000 - Page 2

Whats with everyone going with the HP's over the compaq's?

Is there a problem with the Compaq's? because you can get the same laptop cheaper if you go with the compaq and they are made right next to each other.
They are the same laptop but the zd8000 has the ATI X600 video cards. And personally that is the biggest reason why I’m buying the zd8000. That it’s pretty cheap for the way I have it.

^^ ok

the X6000 also has the X600 card, I have a X6000 notebook and contains the x600 mobility with 256 mb of ram, plays games ok

So far from my experience, it's quieter than my previous Gateway M675 and while it does get warmer, it's not dreadfully hot as some people have posted.

Those that have upgraded to the latest bio update (F24) should notice that the 3rd fan does not run nearly as much anymore, which helps a ton with the noise. After reading all of the posts about noise prior to my purchase, imagine my surprise when I got it and it proved to not be true at all. I'm very pleased.

If I may step in here a sec...THe zd8000 is a bad A## laptop from the reviews i've seen and what not, but if you want to keep up with the gaming market you may want to get a Dell 9300...You can get one loaded with the Go6800 256mb Card, 1 gig ram, 60 gig hard drive, and 17 inch WUXGA screen for about 1400 shipped, if you look around...The main difference is the two video cards the x600 versus the 6800 and also monitors, the HP has a nice monitor but resolution is like 1440 by 900 or something where as the dell is 1920x1200. I think for the money you'd be better off with the Dell if you do a lot of gaming....

Just my opinion.

But I think he's looking for a notebook, not a desktop, hence the point of the question.

And on another note, from working the tech support side of things for a major ISP, you can sing the praises of Dell all you want, but they provide some pretty poor support and advice to their customers. Also, they don't include some basic necessities for customers. For example, each and EVERY time we've had to assist a customer with the re-installation of a nic, the drivers weren't located within the OS. Now mind you, we're trying to install fresh drivers vs those that may have been corrupted, so we're looking for the driver disk which should be an included accessory. Dell didn't include it on any of those occasions and the customer calls Dell for assistance. Dell advises them to go online and download the drivers from their site (duh), but there's no connection. So, the customer must wait on Dell to ship the disk.

I wish I was making this up, but this became a huge issue with them about 2 years ago and we haven't seen it improve. I wish this was just my opinion, but I can't ignore cold hard facts that I've experienced first hand.

I got my Compaq X6000 about 2 weeks ago and the 3rd fan that's in the middle is not working, is it because i have to upgrade the bio.

Are you performing any heavy operations (gaming, installs, office, etc). It may not always run. You'd have to check to see if it truly is a problem. If your notebook isn't overheating, then I wouldn't worry about it.

you point has to do with customer service, i'm saying dollar for dollar the dell will spank any HP, and if your gonna buy a 8000 you may as well get a bigger badder more built to earth laptop that can run any game you throw at it with ease!

Actually, my point stems from the fact that the product was inadequate to begin with causing the call to tech support.

And my zd8000 CAN and HAS run everything thrown at it for less than the 9300. I'm not bashing that model per se. But for what I wanted, the HP had it all and more for less.

My bias against Dell is based on 1st hand knowledge from the products that I've worked with and from others in my location that have had to deal with them. Enough so that we had to publish an SOP to handle issues stemming from Dell computers and integrated nics. (No, I'm not making that up).

Here's what I got:

– Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Media Center Edition
– Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 640 w/HT Technology, 3.2GHz
– 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1680x1050)
– 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 533MHz (2x512MB)
– 100 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
– FREE upgrade 8x DVD+/-RW/R CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
– 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600
– 54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
– 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
– Microsoft(R) Works/Money
– HP Mobile Remote Control

Mind you, I'm paying for the break out tuner box, top processor with larger L2 cache (at the time), larger hard drive, dual layer dvd burner, and accidental damage protection. All for $2,127 shipped.

A similarly configured 9300 goes for $2,054, but I don't get a keypay, the 100GB hard drive is only 4,200 rpm, no tuner or remotes, no accidental damage protection, only a 9 cell vs 12 cell battery, and no bluetooth.

Once again, more for my money.

Sounds like you got a Nice deal on that HP, buttt considering your running a p4 your gonna need that 12 cell, I can get close to 3 hours on my 9300 with regular usage and heat isn't a problem plus screen is at 1920x1200...But I do like Hps they look really nice!

I like to keep plugged in anyway. I may unplug very rarely, but when you get into a DTR, you're not really looking to be too mobile anyways. Hence, the term desktop replacement.

I want to purchase the ZD8000 aswell, just wondering if HP or Dell offers International Warranty?
Give them a call or email support to find out. Simple as that my friend.

Yeah that is exactly what i did 15mins ago. I checked out their website and it mentioned 'Global warranty' on good that are bought and delivered in the same country then moved to another country.

I emailed them to get a confirmation if it was applicable to the ZD8000
post #39 of 54
Very cool. Keep us posted on what you find out.

HP Emailed me back and said you need to call this number to find out.. So i will but i think its night time there now

and PC Torque got back to me and said the below about their international warrantys

http://www.pctorque.com/policies.php

"Export Coverage:

In order to be covered anywhere in the world within the first year of
purchase, Export Coverage must be purchased with a Warrantech Extended
Warranty. This policy can be purchased by international customers OR
United States customers that travel abroad often. With the purchase of
this policy, you will have warranty coverage wherever you go in the
world from the 30 days from the date of purchase (within countries that
the US has diplomatic relations with - ie. not Iran, Cuba, etc.).
This
policy will replace Sager's manufacturer warranty and allow you to have
your notebook serviced locally, rather than send it back to Sager in
the
US. It is highly recommended that international customers consider
this
policy to avoid the high costs of shipping back to the states. To be
clear, all international customers that purchase a Warrantech Extended
Warranty will be covered internationally with the expiration of Sager's
1 year warranty, BUT by purchasing the Export Coverage, your notebook
will be serviced internationally from 30 days from the date of
purchase.
Because of Sager's 30 Day Money Back policy, DOA policy, etc., this
coverage must not begin prior to the 30 day point of ownership since
the
policies usage before that point would render the unit unable to be
returned and the Sager warranty would be voided due to service provided
from an outside source. A Warrantech Extended Warranty must be
purchased to add this plan."
