200MHz = || != $150?

Do you guys think 200MHz is worth $150 upgrade on the 5680 from 2.8GHz to 3.0GHz?

Will I see any difference in game like HL2 or Unreal 2k3?

Will I notice the difference in Application like Outlook and Photoshop?

$150 can get one or two more option(s) so I want to make sure that I will see the 200MHz

I do not believe it is worth it now. Leading technology always costs a few extra pennies, but it would allow your laptop to last for a little longer. With the software and programs you listed I doubt you would notice a difference if you get the ddr400 ram.

probably not in games, but in Photo chop maybe. heh wait to see what happens with HL and For a while. Thenget a cheaper but faster proc later on around christmas time.

upgrade

While we are on the subject of upgrading, how hard is it to upgrade the proc on this laptop (5680)? Will i have to send it back in to get it upgrade for me? or can i do it myself?

No, it's not that hard to upgrade the processor. If you check the reviews section there's some (By pctorque of course) that show exactly how to take it apart step by step.

It's $150 to go from 2.8 - 3.0 and another $150 to go from 3.0 - 3.2. Here are some performance reviews originally posted by Doggonit for the 3.2 and 3.0:3.2Ghz Review and 3.0Ghz Review. While there are performance increases with both, I think that real world usage would not be that much better.

Please argue with me if you think I'm wrong. I'm not a hardware expert.

I agree ... If I see a $50 (+/- some) increase in price to go to the next CPU speed, then I will *probably* go up. But, if it gets over that $100+ price tag to go up in CPU ... I usually don't feel like it's worth it. Yeah, the benchmarks will be better ... but like ETPA00 said, in real world apps ... I don't see it giving me the maximum benefit if I take $$ cost into the equation. My .02 cents... -ot

2.6 -> 2.8 - yes very worth it. 2.8 -> 3.0 Not worth the priceerformance ratio

Depending on your usage, putting the money into something else could result in better overall performance. If you use a lot of RAM, buying more would help much more than a 5% faster processor. A faster hard drive would result in significantly faster program load times, which you would probably enjoy/notice more than 5% of processor power.

I made the same tradeoff in the system I just ordered. 4760 with only 2.6ghz (would have gotten the 2.4, but for $75 difference in the two, I splurged a bit), but with a gig of RAM and a 7200 RPM hard drive. That, for my use, would give me much better performance than the fastest chip, but less RAM and/or slower hard drive.
