I am in the military and when i was in Germany i bought a Gateway M675Prr from a guy on base. Bought it for a song $500. Thing is though I outbid this guy in my barracks and before i left to come to the states he put a supervisor password on it. I saw the machine run and everything before leaving so I know it worked. Called gateway and I am not the original owner they told me to get screwed. I am quite comfy in pulling the cmos if thats what needs to be done, but cannot find diagram anywhere, or am i screwed and its on the eeprom. Any advice would help out alot.Already tried master password for phoenix bios. hehe.

there are bios password cracker utils out there, google them.
Well, how would that be useful if he can't boot it up?

If i could boot into the machine i wouldnt be asking the question, it is a supervisor password, and it has me locked out completely, it will not boot wont go into bios , first thing it does is ask for the password. If anyone has a diagram of this board or any advice besides installing software i would love to hear it. Thanx in advance.

Talk with Gateway again. Ask them what you can do to transfer ownership.

It may go something like this...

Give Gateway a signed release from the original owner and have a county recorder sign it as well. This way it is registered against theft. Make sure all the serial numbers are on the paper as well.

Other than that there are a few people overseas that will hack the hardware and delete the flash chip that stores the password. This requires about $100-$150.

edit: nm I need to read things before i post

i'll keep looking

final edit: maybe this site will help more: http://corky.net/2600/computers/rese...password.shtml
I believe Gateway uses Phoenix and AMI BIOSes mostly... but I could be wrong.

Hahahahahahaha "Reported Phoenix BIOS backdoor passwords include BIOS, CMOS, phoenix, and PHOENIX" thats weak, so very weak. Nice to know how secure my laptop is. My M6807 is out right now, somewhere between Vancover Island and Ontario (better not have any dead pixels or shit will fly) when it gets back I will pop it open for you and look for the battery. Honestly if you want to and have about 1 hour, just take out the battery, open up the laptop and dig around. It can't be to deep, its more then likely in the bottom left corner would be my bet. I have another source that might have a picture of it, let me get in contact with him and I will post more info if I get it. If you decide to do it yourself besure to take pictures for the rest of us

Edit: Ah ha, found it. Good news, its not on the back of the motherboard

My guess though (flip the board over) this is where I would bet money the battery is. (under the front left speaker).

Props to the guy who took these shots. I only took em off his photo album because it took me 10 trys to get one to load (massive time outs). I think its Compman55.

Thanks guys appreciate it, but is the emachine 6807 similar to the m675 cause they dont really look it. Going to wait for a little more advice before i perform surgery. Will take cam shots as well.
No they are different designs, but the motherboard layout could possibly be similar.

I think we're all guilty of forgetting that this is the forum for "Gateway/E-machines" and not the "m68xx" forum at times...

hello,

try to look for mainboard battery and remove for 10-15minutes (but i think this not help because this works only on old models)
also can look if there is any DIPswitches (if there are > one of them can work to reset or disable pass)
if no dip switches then pass is probably in eeprom or bios flash chip=worse..
all can be done with some knowledge+hw+skill..

btw: where you was in germany ? baumholder ?

bye, bRAd

huh, no I was in Ramstein, there thinks of closing bases down in Germany so...alot of guys are gettn pulled out, home or Iraq. Ram is kinda used as a pitstop. If anyone has anymore advice on this problem I am having appreciate any advice.
I think your best bet is to pop it open, yank the battery and sit for 10min and put it back in. Otherwise contact the guy you bought it from and give him some good old american HOO-AH

I would take this laptop and shove it in the trash before i give that bastard one dime. By the way the cpu is soldered on the board. Still hunting foe the cmos.

Hmm... well this is pretty far fetched, I don't think BIOSes do this anymore... But older CMOS chips used to have windows where you could clear the BIOS if you shined an ultraviolet light on it..

REALLY farfetched idea
