I have never heard of that, gonna try looking it up. Thanks.

Anaconda is 50% correct, the older 286,386,486, and early Pentium systems had a long cmos chip that had a sticker over the hole, all you had to do is remove that sticker and it would "erase" the bios program. It will not clear the DMI pool, but rather destory the bios program and render the chip usless unless you have a machine that would let you reprogram it. I have not seem this for ages though. What you can do is remove the chip is possible and send it to some guy and for like $20 he will reprogram it.

hey,
What about the reset hole on the back of the machine, tried that yet? Also, if there is a cmos clear then it probabley would be under the plastic grate on the bottom of the case, well I suppose logically it would but then again its gateway. Ohh and one more thing, someone said the cpu was soddered to the board.. unless I misread that is completely false, because you can upgrade it, its located next to the memory.

checked the cpu and yeah it can be replaced. It has a locking clip, but their is absolutely no battery Cmos wise anyway that i can see. I have since ordered something from the UK for forty dollars, It claims to wipe the passwords on laptops, before anyone responds, it connects to the printer port, this is a last ditch effort before making it a door stop.

well good luck on that,
That would suck to have to waste such a machine, but if you decide that you cannot fix this issue, and want to sell whole or scrap peices then e-mail me at rzrskilla@hotmail.com because I'm in need of a few pieces and would be willing to work out a nice deal with you.

dude,
I think we've all forgotten the basic way to clear cmos. Take the battery out, unplug the machine and hold the power button down for 15-30sec, That method has worked on the 2 laptops I've tried. But on another note, could you please just take the grate off from the bottom of the machine and snap a few pictures of the heatsink(cpu cooler) because I really need to know what it looks like.

o_O? I've never heard of that before. I'm going to have to try it.

Yea, take out the battery. It resets bios settings to default. Never tried it on a laptop, but it should have the same effect.

Cmon guys lets read all the threads before we post. Many laptops nowadays do not have a cmos battery, so how does one go about wiping a supervisor bios password on a laptop.
nooooooooooo,
Thats not what i'm talking about.... alright first unplug the machine (the adapter) next take off the main battery (not the cmos battery the big piece of plastic on the bottom of the machine) then hold the power button down for 30 sec or whatever, that might reset bios.

Yeah that hold power button down with no battery thing didnt work. Completely run out of options. Please that doesnt mean to send 80 request to buy it ok.

If you are getting hammered with unwanted private messages, you can turn off the private message feature in your user control panel under the "Edit Options" sections.

Well I dont want to completely block people from emailing simply because if anyone has a great idea i would love to hear it. Crappy ideas like pull the battery and hold the power button or ill take it off your hands are not the reason i started this thread. Basically If anybody knows how to remove a bios password from a laptop I would love to hear it. Thats a Bios supervisor password on a Gateway M675 laptop. Anyone...anyone...Voodoo economics.
Have you tried all the backdoor passwords. Some common ones are listed here:
http://labmice.techtarget.com/articles/BIOS_hack.htm

We are just trying to help. I understand your frustration though. FWIW, the power button idea does work on some older laptops.

Also, without rereading the whole thread (sorry if you have already posted), have you pressed the BIOS reset button on the notebook?

With that kind of an attitude, I am surprized people still reply to your post. I do understand your frustration but try to be more professional.

I see 3 options:

1.) Find cmos battery and pull it (it has to be there somewhere)
2.) Pull cmos chip and replace if it is socketed
3.) Replace mainboard

These are the ONLY options. Pick one.

On my dell, the battery is in the palmrest and the wiring harness that the touchpad and buttons run off of also contains the pathways to transfer battery current to the mainboard. Try looking in other places other that the board itself.

Option 4.) Press reset switch mentioned in previous reply. It should do the same as Option 1.)

Wow , I didnt mean to give anyone attitude, for that I apologize, but I have been on many forums and never have I been on a forum where people just dont read the threads. That is the point of a forum, I thought, an exchange of information. It seems some people simply read the last six threads and reply. I dare anyone to read through all the posts in my thread and alot of it is just repition or things we have covered already. I have since sent the laptop to england and when it gets back I will take a photo of the fan for eveyone. Other than that, thanks for the advice, it has been greatly appreciated.

pass is probably stored in eeprom or flash chip > you need programmer and hotair for this.. also there "can be" some switsche/switches in motherboard, but you must disassemble all notebook..
