BIOS question

Thread Starter
Good morning!

How would I determine if my 3790 can boot from a USB device?

Also, (to learn a bit more), how can I tell in another computer's BIOS if it is bootable from USB? Or is this information found in documentation and not the BIOS?

Thanks!

Most likely in the documentation. Usually it will not say specifically in the BIOS. It will be lumped in with other devices. Some BIOS have an option to disable boot from an USB device. It's not one of those standard things. I've seen some hp/compaq machines refuse to boot when my usb key was in them, with the error of non bootable disk.

3790 Bios v2.07S - screen shot for startup

Unless its in the documentation as bsmith says, I don't think the 3790v will be able to boot from USB . Might not boot from external hard drive either. This could be changed by a Bios update. You'll notice that it can boot from a pxe Lan connection. I don't know how that works or if it also includes external devices not plugged into the lan connection(s).
Here is what I see for Bios screen menu startup options:
startup drop down to get to boot menu, click the boot device option:

and boot menu screen with options for 4 devices, but no usb listed

Anybody else want Sager/Clevo to make an external bootup option available for these laptops? Something to think/post about, eh...
