Cracked one here!

took the back cover off the lcd screen and figured out that it's not really the hinge that is cracked. It's just the back plastic cover that's cracked, the hinge is fine. tried to fix it with glue and paint but it cracked again.

does anyone know where to get the back plastic cover of the lcd screen for the 7405gx model?

Adeal on ebay has them for 59.99 for a gateway m520 which is the same thing.

ok, my last post in this thread was a while ago. but i now have cracked hinges. and i treated this like my baby too ... BestBuy better fix this ....

Yay. I'm not the only one. What the hell. Design flaw me thinks. Mine are finally cracking two after 8 months of use. The fricking cheap-arse plastic sound jack has also busted too. Amazing. I can't plug in any audio jacks the whole way. And people say apples are weak? The heck? My apple ibook had nothing but a zero shock against the pressure of my books and nothing like this happened. This piece has its own fricking lappy bag. The question now is: do I go through gateway, or bestbuy...? I bought the 3 year overpriced protection plan. If anyone has had a bad BB experience w/ this pm if you get a chance.

It's about time I added to this thread again.

Anyways, after waiting a month for my headphone jack to be repaired in Canada (40 minutes from my home) Emachines decided to ship me a new refurbed from Texas that arrived in 4 days, funny.

I've had the refurb purring for almost a month and just noticed that the hinges are ok but right beside them on the lcd panel housing is cracked on both sides!

Something new! Shipping boxes on the way...

Emachines stuff is normally built from older parts but are built up well...
umm no... once they get a solid board they'll continue using it for a while, but when something new comes out it's NEW (my C2782 with the ASUS A7V8X-LA and my T6212 with the MSI MS-7093 for example)

hell, the M6805 was the first 64-bit notebook out on the market when it came out a year and a half ago

Well youve got a point... I guess i should have said:

Emachines normally has solid hardware & they stick with whats solid for along time and keep selling it after its considered "old"...

Bestbuy exteded warranty with cracked hinges?

hey Teckn, I have another HP laptop and it is identical to urs complete with the ram upgrade hehe.

Anyway I saw on the earlier post something about Bestbuy service in this area. I also have cracked hinges on my gateway laptop I bought only a few months ago. I was wondering what is their service like? I have the extended warranty but what can/will they do? replace the plastic hinges? Give me a new laptop? lol
PM if you have any experince with it...

The cracks seem to be getting bigger, and the HP laptop I bought around the same time is not treated as well and has no cracks at all :s

Six months of use and not a single problem with the hinges. Not only do I use the laptop every day, but I take it to work daily, so it's not like it's been sitting on my desk since December.

Had to return one laptop already for this issue.

The replacement works great!
