Well I'll be be.... I'm sure that every once in a while you have some actual quality mother boards making it into some of the mass production machines. eMachine's can use all the help they can get. Don't know how they are doing now, but a few years back, they were every bit as bad as an acer and the like.

Personally, I've been lucky. Untill my laptop, I've never had a computer that I didn't build myself. Unfortunatly, I couldn't build the laptop, so I had to buy one. All in all, I feel I made a good choice. But everyone is going to have their favorite pc maker and there are those that will argue about who's better till they are blue in the face. It doesn't matter. Do your homework, decide for yourself, make your purchase and if you don't like it, you have only yourself to blame.

Let's put it this way: When I had a problem with the screen on my i8600 (too much ghosting), I e-mailed Dell's tech support and explained my problem, and a replacement screen was in the mail the next day. I dare you to find very many other companies that will do the same (Falcon is one of the few I can think of).

Of course Dell has their problems. All major computer manufacturers do. If you do your research, you might know what to expect.

Every computer I ever owned was either Gateway, DELL, or self custom built.

For the company ones though, I've never had any problems, well a few times, but all it took was hanging up and calling backing getting a different representative. I recommend hanging up and calling 20 times if you need to, there is always one rep who doesn't care about the company, they just want to help people. They are the smart ones who realize, they don't get cookies and awards for telling you nonsense to get you to buy the stuff. I feel like if you work for a company and you aren't profiting directly from doing so, what the hell is the point of fighting for the company's side? They'll let you go like nothing if they see they can save money that way.

What the hell? How did I get to that? Hmm.... bedtime.

Acutally, if you read my post- I was not the one who made the sucky purchase. I know better to buy from *ANY* pre-configured major name brand desktop vendor because I can build a better computer for way less than what an OEM can sell it for.

Which brings up another point- Dell is overly aggressive with marketing to those who don't know a thing about computers- hence the crappy purchase from my wife before we knew each other.

I work on many computer issues at my job- lots of those computers are Dell computers. Out of those computers- the Compaq brands have given me the least problems. Installing wireless cards and other peripherals have been the most problematic when it comes to Dell. Why would that be? DELL OEM specific parts. I've talked to reps from D-Link, Netgear, Cisco, and lots of others who have told me they have had more issues with Dell than any other. Yeah, I could probably argue and say that's because more people own a Dell but I highly doubt it.

Let's not forget Dell selling their so called watered down Lexmark printers with the "Dell" badges on them. They are Lexmark printers with one major difference- the ink cartridges look EXACTLY like a Lexmark but they are keyed backwards.

Having over 1000 posts does not make you a computer expert and I tend to think my post was quite a bit more tactful than saying "Dell Sucks." So, get off of your high horse.

Just like anything else- if you don't like what someone writes, you aren't forced to read it which is OBVIOUS that you didn't read my post since you jumped to conclusions.

P.S. Congrats on your elite status so "Newbies" like us can worship you and your "dark side of the force."

You're more than welcome to visit this forum and many others who can give you no-nonsense opinions from real users. I consider the computer users here to be quite knowledgeable. I'm sick of these newby forum members with single digit posts crying foul after a sucky purchase, and this guy's crying 1 to 2 years later!

Tell me, who in their right mind would say "Ok, I'll agree to 28.5% interest and a hidden service charge!"
Just like the 1000's of other people who don't know about computers, right?

Most of us on this forum are computer savvy and know what we buy.

Lets say this was your mother- she buys a dell and experiences what I initially wrote about...You wouldn't be too impressed now would you? Now lets say you had to spend a few thousand to pay off her debt...Maybe that will give you a little understanding.

No sweat really- I can deal with issues and I did deal with issues and I paid off my wife's debt.

My whole gripe was the way Dell handled everything. Why should they care- they are rich and they want to save money by outsourcing their help to a foreign country. No, Dell isn't the only one who does this but when you are trying to get a problem resolved that can affect your credit or someone you care about's credit it sure can be a hassle.

Also to those who say no companies care about the customer- I've read a lot of good things about PCTorque in this forum so don't say it's EVERY vendor.

I'll admit it was unfair to pinpoint INDIA but I'd be just as pissed if it was outsourced to any other country regardless of where. If I was from Italy, I wouldn't want some American who learned to speak Italian offering me advice.

Personally I wouldn't even consider a Dell, not even if I got it for free. I don't support unethical companies.

And having the former Dell commercial guy beaten too a bloody pulp is ethical?

Actually that was pretty funny I bet you've been wanting to do that to Dell for a long time ehh snorre?

So get busy and go build one! We've got hundreds of these threads for the undereducated to review. Nothing new in your thread opening. You've read a few posts in these forums, right?

You're right about this, but still not new in the way of information. So far, the only thing you've brought to the table that was different was the little "thumbs down" icon next to the thread envelope. Nice touch.

OK. Blah, Blah, Blah. I dub thee expert. You may pass.

I am no computer expert here, dear boy. But I post right alongside some of the most talented. The only thing a thousand post gets me here is longevity, and the experience of having read through "do not buy Dell", "do not buy Alienware", and "do not by Gateway" posts a over and over again. Most of the time, it's a first time poster thinking they've got the Holy Grail of "crappola computer" knowledge, and if you don't read through the forum first to see what others have said about the very same issues, it's just a broken record. No high horse here, just a Shetland pony.

Crap. I misread the part about your wife buying the Dell before you "met" her. Uh-oh, that changes the tenor of your thread entirely. Hold on, no it doesn't. Blah, blah, blah.

I love how the replies to this thread increase in stupidity.

GO FANBOYS GO FIGHT TO THE DEATH!!!!!

Who's this log pincher?

No fanboys here, bub. Just a bunch of laptop owners trying to figure out the true nature of computer customer and hardware service from the point of view of the Dell service model. Sure you posted in the right thread, homie?

1st I am not your "homie"...

2nd I think people praising a certain brand over another, and making idiots out of themselves while doing it fanboys. I have seen quite a few here too...

3rd log pincher? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black...

You are laptop owners correct, but you sound like a bunch of whiney children with your responses...

Damn, you got that right. I'd say that was the self-fulfilling prophecy of the week!

1st - I see no one praising one brand over another. I do see someone who posted a thread whining about why they don't think anyone should buy a Dell, although AMD4EVER can post whatever he wants. He should expect to get both positive and negative responses, his post generated some interest, but it was negative interest regarding customer service on my part. Where are you getting this fanboy sh!t?

2nd - Pots and pans are constructed with many different parent metals, including copper and stainless steel. We reside in the 21st century, so you may want to let some of the townfolk you live with know that 19th century frontier slang went out with the invention of the horseless carriage.

3rd - It's too bad we can't be friends, but I doubt anyone will miss you if you stop posting. Especially with your inventive use of buddy icons. (I put Mr. Sarcasto in there for 'ya in case you didn't catch the sarcasm)

AMD4EVER, good luck with you next build. While I've seen threads like yours before, it is still a very recent thread and your experience should be valuable to someone looking to purchase their next laptop.

Here's some buddy icons so N9one doesn't think I'm a whiner:

I post when topics are stupid like this or to be helpful. Also you are still a whiner...
