August 15 2003, Sony announces the successor to the flagship model F717.

The F828 seems to be one fantastic looking camera.

Take a look at the Cnet first take.

Sony F828 Digital Camera 8.0 Megapixel

Any early takes on it? Looks to be a heavy competitor for Canon's Digital Rebel being announced August 20th. Personally, I own a Sony V1 and am particular to the Sony brand for digital cameras.

With the addition of a Compactflash II slot on the F828 , it makes it hard to not take a look at it.

Wow, that's a good price for 8 mp.

Not that I can afford it, but yeah, looks nice.

Thank goodness they made a slot for compact flash, -- that ridiculous proprietary memory was expensive!

Thanks for the heads up.

Nice camera... I've got a Sony DSC-P9 and it takes awesome pictures, my only beef is it takes too long to focus/red eye flash/flash/save the picture/charge the flash. Makes taking series-like photos impossible.

Update to this, I mentioned Canon's new Digital Rebel. It was announced today August 20 , 2003 . Here is a link to Canon's site for info on it. It looks like an awesome camera too, and coming from Canon I am sure it is worth the money

Canon Digital Rebel

Here are myquestions for those of you into digital photography. Why would I want to buy the Digital Rebel, only get a body kit then have to shell out another good amount of money to buy compatible lenses? Are you really getting better quality pictures going the Canon route with interchangeable lenses? The F828 seems to have a better performing lens at least on paper then all of Canon's current model's available with the exception of their extremely high end DSLR's. Or am I missing something.

Any info would be appreciated thanks.

Too Bad Canon Can't do a 8 Mega Pixel Elf

I enjoy digital photography, but I don't always like to carry around 30lbs of camera equipment for that one "perfect" photo op!

I've found that the Canon Powershot S100 (Digital Elf) is perfect!

2.1 Mega Pixel, and can be used as a key ring!

Downside to smaller Digi-Cams... About 12 shots with flash and the battery is toast.

I always liked the Nikon D1X ... 5.3 Mega Pixel ... compatible with all the old 35mm lenses and gear Of course... who can afford these anyways!

I personally Reccomend Canon because you can get there older EOS lens cheap

10D is a nice camera and you can get the lens for a 200 bucks at at b&h.com it has a iffy white balance but you get awesome batteyr life and pictures

if you just like numbers your probabaly better off with something cheasy liek the fuji fine pix S700? its a small camera capable of dishing out 6.2 megapixels and decent zoom functions. I generally dont reccomend anything fromm sony or fuji but this camera does reproduce excellent high image pictures if youy have the memeory to spare.

Hi,

If you don't have the camera with you it is useless. I used to be a professional photographer. It has been years since I used my SLR cameras. I used to use my wifes's point and shoot camera for family snapshots. I now use a Minolta Dimage Xi. It has some minor faults, but I have it with me everywhere I go. It fits nicely into my fanny pack with spare battery and memory cards. It also works quite nicely with my 8887 as it used SD memory cards. I have all of the documents I am currently working on stored on these cards.
