Home theatre projector

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to which projector I should buy for my home theatre? I am willing to spend upto 3000(max - hoping to get a good one in less tho) on it. Any tips would be great. Also, how can I connect my notebook to the projector to play games/movies?
Thanks

I would also post over at www.hometheatertalk.com www.hometheaterforum.com & www.hometheaterspot.com in the video sections. A lot of knowledgeable folks there and a few ISF calibrators. I'm big into home theater but haven't moved to front projection yet.

www.projectorpeople.com usually have some good deals including screen too.

I have. Anyways, if anyone is interested in buillding one, check this site out. http://www.lumenlab.com (havn't visited that site in a while but I couldn't help giving a plug). The guide itself costs $20 but that is not where all the good info comes from... The forums alone are worth $20. Plus a convenient store too (the people running it are nice and helpful and don't rip people off). Anyways, a little too off topic.... As for real projectors, I have no clue.

It is pretty widely accepted that the Panasonic AE700 is top of the line for its value and price and performance.

It is approximately 2000 USD.

I purchased it a week ago and I'm loving it.

The best forums for Home Theater are at www.avsforum.com. www.projectorcentral also has good info. As for a projector, it depends whether you need high definition or not. If you will be mainly watching DVDs, then either the InFocus 4805 or the Optoma H31 are both superb projectors for the money and comprehensively spank anything that used to be available for under $3K.

The best part is that they both cost around $1299. I've had even more projectors than I have had laptops and these two rock.

If you have a DVI port on your laptop that would be ideal, otherwise use the VGA output.

My Dad has a really nice HD projector with a 120" screen. I'll ask him what kind it is.

Hey,

Thanks for all the info. I will look into the Panasonic. The problem is there are so many(and I have no knowledge about these), its hard to decide where to start. Any other companies or models I should look at?

I have been hearing good reviews about the Panasonic 700U. The best price I could find for it is about 2050-2100. Does anyone know where I could get this for less? Thanks

Home theaters are pretty cool but I probably will wait for awhile until getting one.
