Your so optimistic! Hah...Q1 '06 is not going to have any dual core notebooks, I say it'll get delayed a year or more just like sonoma did.

He didn't say we would see them in Q1 '06. He said that Q1 '06 is the earliest that they would appear based on their current mfg schedule.

Wow, you are almost correct. I think since he was looking at i9300, 17" was desired.

But, if you can settle for 15", pickup your own 100 gig Hard Drive (not available), and pick up your own 16x DVD burner (not available), you can indeed get the M70 with above specs for the low low price of $4217 (plus HD and DVD), or about $2800 more (plus HD and DVD) than the $1400 I paid for my I9200. Cool, where does the line start? Note that the $4217 price (plus HD and DVD) includes a $250 discount if you place your order now, otherwise it is $4467 (plus HD and DVD).

Just saw that delivery date is mid March, or more than a month away.
No thanks, as it will be obsolete by then.

I read what he said. My response was that it was too optimistic. Take me less seriously, please, I'm just poking fun at Intel for delaying stuff all the time.

Did you see? The i9300 listing has disappeared from DELL site. Now what NEXT?

Yep, gone from all Dell sites.
The laptop fairy has disappeared, so those dreaming of what might have been have to settle for reality.

Disclaimer:
I actually put money out, which the dreamers have not, and am enjoying the use of a modern laptop, which the dreamers are not. Sure, "someday" a better laptop will be in users hands, but in the meantime, get that facts right. Todays available laptops are fine. Get one. Do not wait for the laptop fairy to come up with a new dream. The manufacturer will release new models when they are ready to be released, and of course every new model that comes out will be better than the one they released 6 months prior. Everytime.

Rob you sound pretty bitter to me, mate. I don't think I have read one positive thing in any of your last 10 posts. At first the sarcastic humour of waiting for the Dell 10000 was pretty funny I must admit, but every new post you make smells more and more like sour grapes. No hard feelings, lets just keep it constructive eh?

Cheers

Niods, you must have me mistaken with someone else, as I don't think I mentioned the Dell 10000. Also many of my posts were in regards to helping others with non-fictitious laptops (I actually tore apart my i9200 to share the info about what PLL chip it used for overclocking potential). Yep, I did have some fun with some of the every other topic posts about the mysterious i9300. But, it is no different than those guessing. Sure, inside all the new i9200 owners there is a question that keeps coming up because of all the posts about the i9300. Of course it will be replaced. This thread was the topper though, because it is called: "At last i9300 is here". Where? Not here. Not there. Not anywhere. And those are the only "true facts" anyone has.

As soon as one thread dies, a new one pops up to carry on the myth again.

There have been many posts from some over the past few weeks telling potential buyers to not get the i9200 because the i9300 will be out anytime now. (was here at last, now gone, but even then had a delivery date of late March, non-US, which puts in in US hands sometime in April at soonest).

I just wish they would release it NOW, so those playing guessing games can actually lay out some cash, and put there money where there mouth's (or fingers) are. But alas, I am sure the same story will come up shortly after the i9300 really comes out, and we repeat the same thing over, and over again, until the end of time Sour grapes can not be, because there is nothing available yet to be sorry about. In fact, it is the opposite, as unlike those dreamers, I am able to use a laptop today.

It's like Drag Racing. Some actually build a car and race it each week. Others are simply bench racers, and have that latest under construction all the time, and never get to enjoy what it is all about.

guess this isnt the sonama but the dothan cpu. cuz it has 400mhz fsb instead of the 533. so i guess if u go for 9700 u can only get dothans, while if u get the 6800, u get the sonama.

but then again, i could be wrong

Heh I'd like to hear some poor Dell rep trying to explain why your order can't be filled.

I think Sonoma is the chipset. Dothan is the cpu. Dothan cpu's come in both 400 and 533 mhz fsb models. The Sonoma chipset includes pci-e, the previous 400mhz supporting chipset only supports agp for video, so that's the reason for the gpu difference. Based on the add samples I've seen, the 9300 will sport both chipsets as options, the one from the 9200 and the new Sonoma. Essentially the 400mhz / agp based system will be a 9200 with some minor differences.

No, that would be too simple.

Alviso is the chipset.
Dothan is the CPU with 2MB L2 cache.
Centrino is the brand name of the combination of CPU+chipset+wireless card.
Sonoma is the codename of the latest Centrino "platform" rev.

Yes, that's correct. The real power of sonoma is the chipset. It includes an all new graphics bus called pci -e 16X ( 4 times faster then today's 8x AGP). Others are :

533MHz FSB
4x DMI
Express Card interface
8 USB compare to 6 on 855PM(current)
Gbit LAN compare to 100M LAN on 855PM
HD Audio
DUAL CH DDR2 RAM
LPC BUS

etc...

interesting. Isn't it?

but still no built in water fountain. That's what I'm waiting for.

Unfortunately features like the Express Card interface and HD Audio are optional extras which notebook manufacturers can opt not to use however, so the fact that this is Sonoma does not guarantee it will have all of these features. Seems crazy that they would not choose to use the technology if it was easily available.

Cheers

man this is a long thread, i am trying to keep tabs on the 9300 since i am mildly interested in it, but then again i am a AW guy at heart so my alegiance is with them. I do hope that you guys get it though, it will certainly be a sweet machine when it gets there.

In the meantime, you dissilusioned Dell guys can always get the Alienware 7700 or the new toshiba m40 (if your in canada), since those both have the pci-express graphics. The toshiba also has alviso and sonoma combination from what i have heard, on a 15.4inch machine and with a fx go 6600 128meg graphics card.....just a thought, not try to start any flame wars here.

here is hoping they put it out soon, take care (covers head waiting for incoming fire)
