Radlinker settings to run graphics card overclocked only when gaming?

I've got a CL56, and as it is now HL2 is playable at 1024x768 all details high without AA. But it does stutter for a splt second in some areas, so I'm thinking that overclocking the graphics card might help out here.

I'm using the latest Omega 4.12 drivers with Radlinker. Is there a setting in Radlinker so I can run a certain core/memory overclocked speed only for games? I haven't found it in the driver settings, I just want to run default speeds while in Windows so I have good battery life and don't overheat anything.

Thanks.

Thats strange - I have a Dell 9200 with exactly the same spec as you (7200 RPM HDD tho), run HL2 and CSS at 1440x900 and never have any probs at all (everything on high, water on Reflect World, NO AA or AF)

In terms of battery life try using powerplay, it fairly dramatically downclocks the card when its not being used - like to about 100/50 or something like that...

i suggest a program called atitool (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/) and knock both ur clock settings up 30 pts for a good boast, if u want i could give u my max clock settings i had(they were kinda unstable tho..) i beileve the MAX!!! was GPU 516 Mem 262 but i'de suggest 495, 250 for a good stable clock, have fun

Oh the game runs pretty much flawlessly 50-60 fps constantly, but I might get a split second drop to 30-35 fps when I enter an outdoor area (then fps goes back to normal) or after a load sequence.

This might also be due to me not defragging the hardrive since I bought it though (I'll try doing that tonight).

What laptop? The CL56 GPU cooling isn't all that great.

it was an alienware 5500 w/ like 2(3?) fans in it, i didnt think it would differ that much? maybe it does (btw specs were P4 3.4, 60gb 7200 HD,1Gig ram)

and i think that happens to everyone if i dont know any better?

That's the whole point behind radlinker. I never use Omega's drivers (I'm using normal Catalyst 5.1 on my CL56), so I don't how he implements radlinker. However, using standard radlinker, you can just right click on a shortcut or exe corresponding to the game and select "custom settings." Then, when you choose "properties" after right clicking the same link, you will be presented with many nice options, including overclocking and dx/opengl settings.
