Solaris 10 x86 - Page 2

It's not hda1 in Solaris. It's c0d0. Actually, I think that's true for all UNIX operating systems. But yeah, I have two partitions: NTFS from 0-44 GB, and Solaris's FS (whatever it is) from 44 to 60-ish. But I haven't had any problems with dual booting. My Windows XP Pro still runs fine.

Not being an emachines guru, do your systems support RAID arrays at all.
I have the Solaris CD's all burnt and installing except it can't see my RAID 0 array hanging off the Promise 20265 RAID controller (which should appear as a SCSI device to the OS even though the disks attached are IDE).

WinXP of course works (almost - recent bug discovered during format).

It smells like a driver issue, but other ideas are welcome.

None of the m68** series or Gateway 7*** series has RAID.
What laptop do you have that has RAID controller? It must be made down under if exist...

Oh yea of little knowledge about Sagers...
ALL the top end Sagers support RAID: 8890 / 8790 / 9860.
They can either do RAID 0 (stripe) or RAID 1 (mirror).
Since you can have up to 4 disks inside an 8890 it makes a lot of sense to have RAID.
Mind you we can only RAID two of the disks

Unfortunately for Solaris it does not seem to like the Promise controller in RAID mode.
I am going to test it in non-RAID mode shortly. Will post results.
