i bought M40YP3 last monday it's really cool and the fan is so quiet. the battery is only 2 hours. if i upgrade to 12 cell , do you know how many hours extend for battery life?
When you get 2 hrs of battery life what mode is the laptop in (ie battery save mode, normal mode..)? I've heard of people getting almost 3 hrs out of the m40.
its all about the mode it is in. as for a 12 cell battery, i am not sure if one is available yet.

there is definately a 12 cell battery for the M40..... it's the PA3400U-1BAS, it's the same extended battery used for the A3/A4, and also S2 i think.

another great thing about toshiba.... their extended batteries are 1/3 of the price (of sony), i'll pick up one now, and maybe another later on.

sweet...thanks for passing on the part number for it, i know that there are definately people out there wanted them.

as for buying one in italy i am not sure about it, your going to have to check with companies locally, and also check with the major electronics companies in europe, the bigger chains should carry it if it is available.

the x600 is a very fine card, it is as if not slightly more powerful than the go6600...should not be a problem on that front.

Just picked up the M40 from futureshop. Aside from the one "non-conforming pixel" that likes to stay red, everything on this machine is spot on. The display prob was straight out of the box so I went back to exchange it and the manager offered a decent discount if I kept it instead. I Went for the discount and I dont even notice the pixel other than the bootup screen. Sweet!
If you are considering a solid machine that can handle pretty much anything you throw at it at a price you cant beat, this is the one!

After comparing the M40 YP3 to the FS550 by Sony, I finally decided on the M40 YP3. Thanks for all the help here, you guys are a wealth of information. I went to Future Shop last night to by the M40. Unfortunately I couldn't get a print out from Best Buy because they've taken that model off of their website since they do not have any at all in stock, not even in the warehouse. I did print the next best price I could find off the net and of course future shop matched it. I haven't done all that much with the computer yet so I can't comment on it too much. I can say the the screen is really impressive. It is very bright and crisp. I did cause the blue screen of death to appear by unplugging the AC adaptor while the computer was on. It seems that there is a bug of some kind in the way this computer manages power. My old Toshiba Satellite never did that when I unplugged it. I guess one has to go to stand by or something in order to unplug this laptop. One comment on build quality. I am a bit surprised that the cover for the computer is so thin and flexible. One can easily cause ripples in the display by pressing on the back of the LCD cover. The other Toshiba models did not have such a thin cover and you couldn't cause ripples in the LCD by pressing on the back of it. In fact, the cover is thinner or more flexible than the Sony's which I was very surprised about. Other than that, no other complaints yet. I'll post a short review once I get XP pro on it and some other programs as well.

Let me know how the xp pro installation goes. I dont like all this preinstalled stuff that comes with this. But I do like some of the utils (like the battery manager). I think these can be dl of thosiba site....no?

torontotl, i was tossing up between the sony s380, or the highest model of the FS series in australia, or the m40. unfortunately (because i like sony), it was a very quick/easy decision, because the sony laptops simply don't have anything to match whats under the hood of competitors, and they're overpriced, yet very stylish.

thankfully in australia the M40 comes with xp pro (infact, most laptops in australia come with pro), so i didn't have to do anything regading this.

as for the utilities, i'm pretty sure a link on the american or canadian site let you download all of these exe files individually.

oh, and incase anybody else is freaking out about potential problems with the m40, i can reiterate that mine is problem free.

no dead pixels, no high pitch noise from the fan/cpu, no problem with pulling out the ac power cable while running (or putting it back in), no problem with wifi or bluetooth, no blocked off pci express slot.... not a single thing wrong with it
post #154 of 185
do your wireless turn on when your restart M40 YP3 ? , the wireless has already switched on . mine didn't
post #155 of 185
I've had my wireless come on automatically when the wireless is set to on when I restart my computer so far. I have only had one day so far to play with it though.
