Sager 4780 BIOS (Clevo 470V, Prostar D47V)

1. Where can I find the latest bios for the Sager 4780 (Clevo 470V, Prostar D47V)? I know people have newer versions that can disable the annoying startup beep among other things. I don't know why they don't post this thing...

2. How do you fix the problem with blocky tv tuner after waking from sleep or hibernate? A message appears saying to put the USB device on the USB 2.0 bus... I think what's happening is that when it wakes up, the tv tuner goes onto the wrong bus... but then again, maybe it's referring to a different device. I don't know.

3. Does anyone have trouble with external USB devices? For example, I have an Event EZBus. Drivers install properly and the USB communication works with the librarian but the ASIO driver fails. This may be a driver issue and not related to USB at all. I've done tons of trouble shooting and hoped a bios upgrade or newer driver of some sort would fix this problem

Any help would be appreciated.

Try the eurocom site

Regarding point 1 of your question:
Try http://www.eurocom.ca/ and go to the support section. You can find all the latest BIOS files right there.

With the other points I can't help you.

Let me know if you find the right BIOS file. I have a Promedion D470V myself and have a hard time finding the right BIOS. Thought the Sager 4780 was the same machine, but it has a "40V" and the Promedion has a "40U" BIOS ID.

as far as number 2 is concerned, i have not found a solution. I do know that it is due to the fact that the usb 2 reverts to usb1 speeds for some odd reason. to get around this, don't go on standby and just restart the computer if you need to use the tuner.

1. Thanks for the pointer to eurocom
http://www.eurocom.ca/ and click on support->System Bios
There are two files that apply to this machine:

D470V Impressa 2004/06/24 R1.10.A
D470V Impressa (keyboard BIOS) 2004/04/22 R1.00.08

I don't know if you can use both or not but I am going to try the first one only.

2. Use the all of the tv drivers from http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?ma...4774/D47U/D47V
This appears to have worked for coming out of standby. I'm not sure about hibernate yet.

Now why doesn't Sager or even Clevo have these same downloads???

Progress

1. The bios from eurocom worked. I don't know what problems it has solved but at least I can turn off the annoying startup beep now. What about the annoying battery low beep...beep...beep?

2. Tuner doesn't work coming out of hibernate even after installing the drivers from prostar

3. Hopefully the new bios has fixed the usb problem but I haven't tried yet. Clevo has USB drivers for this machine but the ftp site seems to be down.

Hey Saleen,

When your machine first boots, and a brief message regarding the Realtek 81xx comes up and says "Press shift f10 to configure", can you
press shift f10 and see if config of netbooting is allowed? I'm wondering if this is fixed in the eurocom bios. I have a 4780 and need this feature. Thanks.

Realtek 81xx

I don't see that brief message about Realtek when I boot. Exactly when does it show up?

I'm aware of this but not sleeping or rebooting for the tv is stupid (sorry... not directed at you).

Oh it's right after the POST. But you have to have the "network boot (PXE Oprom)" set to enabled in bios in order for it to show up. Sorry, should have mentioned that straight away.

Um.. I just got into the netboot config, had to clear the ESCD before it would work. My bad.

Well I just netbooted the 4780 just fine, even though Sager said it was unsupported. Maybe it depends on the bios version or something.

Thanks anyway saleen for checking.

Does this new bios help you reduse the fan noise or manage the fans?
no it gets rid of the beep on booting and i think is more reliable. there is nothing that i know of to reduce fan noise on the 4780.

How to reduce the fan noise in Clevo D470V / Sager 4780

You can reduce the noise by seeing the video "Dust in laptop & how to clean it" in www.youtube.com see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS2tKwhigyE

After some years some big layers of dust are laied between the fan and the copper radiator. Belive me that´s is the cause! I test my temperature it the program "Notebook Hardware control" and now it´s 15 to 20 ºC less than before the cleaning!
Also you can reduce the CPU speed using that program, it will heat less.
Remember always unplug the laptop and remove the battery before any dust cleaning.
