i have a laptop model 4780, i bought a year a ago.
i just bought recently a DVD+/-R burner 16X external using UBS 2 device.

My problem is, i bought 8X DVD, Nero say i can go up to 12X, but i can only burn 4X.

Ok, what is going on here? Is it my UBS 2 device is not fast enough?
Is it nero going crasy? Or it is Just bad DVD.

Or may Be my Burner frite?

Thank.

Sounds like media. What kind do you have?

Media is the culprit. If you have a Pioneer DVR-108/-109, they really do not like some DVD+R's (Especially Riteck/Ridata). If you have the 108, please let me know and I can provide a number of known compatible DVD's. Also provide the firmware revision number as that matters. Most 8x DVD-R's should burn at either 8x, 10x, or 12x on the 108/109s. Also DVDInfo-Pro will tell you exactly what sppeds the drive can attain with the media that is being examined. Takes the guess work out of it.

That media is Taiyo Yuden 8xDVD-R and should work well at 8x and above; however, I notice that the 8x media is not on the "recommended list": See here: http://www.de.nec.de/software/1679_Media_List_for_16x_DVD_Writer_(DVT).pdf

The latest firmware is version 2.18 and can be found here: http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/215

The firmware is what will make the drive correctly recognize the media's capabilities.
