ive head that they are horrible and dont fix problems they just send it back to you, and instead of replacing something they actually repair it.

that there service is horrible.

Having a local service center is generally more convenient that having to deal with the shipping and the waiting. But it also all depends on how long you plan on having the notebook. If you're going to have it for a few years, it's not a bad idea to have the extra warranty - kind of like car insurance. But if you get a new notebook every year, it doesn't make sense to do so.

I got the Sony Notebook from Bestbuy with 3 years service plan. the LCD broke and I have to wait for 3 weeks (without a loaner or anything).
When I got it back last night. Not ONLY the screen is still broke. all the screw is missing and keyboard and benzel are poping out.. They totally ruined the Laptop, and bestbuy put a "Inspected" sticker on the box... IS that a JOke??? I have to wait another 3 weeks AGAIN

I have a completely different experience with retailers. I have said before, and i'll say it again, i buy the complete accidental warranty from compusa and recently, for some reason, my hard drive was fried, so i had to go to compusa. They said that they had to send it to sony to get fixed, so they sent it and got it back one week later, they booted it up, realized sony had screwed up, so they called sony, told them their error, and sent it right back, without calling me. the guys at compusa are real computer nerds, just like you and me, so they care (kinda....) But anyway, they gave me great service and have done so at every one of the times i have had to deal with them. And it has been quite a few times. I have noticed that the less computer retailers tend to have less quality in their warranties, but something like compusa, almost centrally a computer retailer, is much better.
