I don't know...Korea is making some SERIOUS competition in electronics these days. Years ago someone told me that Korea would be a major player in electronics and the automotive industry...If I had only bought stock then.
I don't know of any Korean laptop manufacturers (maybe I do, I just don't know they are a Korean mfg) but a whole lot of components are starting to show face.
Samsung and LG come to mind.

Fujitzu-Siemens, I agree builds with very high quality.

Sony, on the other hand, mainly because of personal experience, has a bad rep by my count.

Not all Sony are made in Japan, nor are all Fujitsu, so do your homework before you buy one. Japanese warranty and service has a great rep for attention to details and thoroughness, although it's probably no match for IBM if you don't speak Japanese. This is the reason that despite Toshiba has a great rep in Japan, I would not consider it at all in USA.

Of course, you could still get a lemon even if they have Made in Japan mark on it.

ok so here is a question, why not just buy a Dell or big name laptop that you can find at a store, even though you can't mod it when you buy it, won't the support be better?

and second where do all you people buy your IBM computers? are they for work or personally bought pc's. Because I think that has a lot to do with it, if it is for work you just get it, if it is for home then there is no point.

I'm not sure if I understand your question, please rephrase it.

Dell and IBM are both mainly sold on line with their own distribution, they are not usually sold at BestBuy and the like, so I'm not sure where your question is coming from. Third party supports usually are not as good as manufacture support. IBM is consistently rated #1 from year to year in terms of support and repairs, in any way shape or form that IBM PCs come in.

If you have doubts about the quality of an IBM laptop, read this thread:

I voted for Dell strictly because Dell ha never let me down with ANY purchase. Desktop to MP3 player it all has been good!! I love listening to my Dell Pocket DJ as the iPod fanboys walk by... and I just think "sucker spent $100 more than me"
You must be one of the lucky ones. I've heard more horror stories about Dell computers going down than I have HP & Compaq combined (that's saying a lot)...
