IPOD MINI..and Alienware

Thread Starter
Ok...so If I buy an IPOD mini I have 2 questions.

1) Does the music I download to the mini have to be from itunes?

2) How can I upload different MP3's instead of Itunes files?

Also, if I connect this to an Aurora Fx will it work?

thanks

no you dont need itunes to get songs... you can burn songs to ur computer then upload them onto the ipod with the software it has... the way you do this is on the software the ipod comes with you locate the direction where u saving all the songs at...... i use a p2p program to dl songs... i dont know if i can say that here but am sorry if i cant.. but yea i dl songs online and have them save to a folder...i dont have a ipod but friend does and i put songs into his ipod........... your gonna need to install the drivers correct somtimes that gives problems then you may need to dl a program called "ephpod" you use that to put the songs there and transfer them to the ipod... i hope this work and yea it should work with your computer , as it should with any.. i hope this help......

Unless the size is the most important factor, I'd recommend getting the 20GB Ipod which is what I did. Only people I see around with the mini are chicks. It's $50.00 more and you get 5x the capacity.

um...i have the Mini

lol, I personally don't own an iPod (I have Sony's HD player), but I don't like the mini and I agree with twopiece (Sorry Craig!! )
i think the mini is the most useless POS as far as hdd players go. If you want a small player, try the Creative Zen Micro. If you want a normal player give the iRiver H320 or the new H20 a try.

yeah, you don't necessarily need in Itunes installed to upload your files. Tho i use it for convenience sake (only to upload songs on ipod....use winamp for muisic (theres an ipod plugin for that too) and WMP for video)

As long as your file as an mp3 or aac extension you can whack it on your ipod. It doesn't have to be from the itunes store, or legal.

I've got a 3rd gen 40gig ipod, and love it. Apart from slightly low battery life (compared to the players nowadays) i have no problems with it....would love to get the 60gig ipod photo tho, my 40gig is gettin packed!!

Hope that helps mate

it will work, and the ipod photo rocks...god i love that thing

bet you love paying a premium to apple too. for that price i can get a H340 UK, still get the picture + movie, but also get USB on the go (plug in cam directly into the player), movie playback, 6 hours longer battery life, ogg support, built in mic, built in fm tuner, and save $150 doing it

chicks and metrosexuals

My iPod 40 gig rules. And you cannot hook any other mp3 player to a car stereo in the same way
post #11 of 40
what way would that be?

FM Transmiter? Tape connection? Wire it from headphone jack to audio-in on the dash?

ABF is just upset because he has to use crappy software to load songs into his iRiver.

abf cant use the best music jukebox for both windows and mac boo hoo

i need NO SOFTWARE PERIOD to load music into my iriver. It gets recognized as an external hard drive and i just drag and drop (under both linux and windows).

and IMO itunes is a waste, bring back WinAMP (before the AOL take-over)

PS..can your ipod:
Play FM radio right out of the box?
Display pictures in more colors than ipod photo?
Record voice or FM streams?
Last 16 hours on battery?
Use SRS WoW to improve sound?
Support .ogg ?
Play .avi files?
be used as an external media drive (so you can drag files OFF it w/o any 3rd party software)?
can you plug your digital cam directly into your pod and upload pics w/o a pc?
mount in linux without using gtkpod?

and do all that for $100 less than a 20gb 4th gen ipod?

can your iriver:
create playlists on the fly?
create smart playlists on your PC?
play music from the largest online music store?
use an internal equalizer?
support AAC?
apple lossless?
AIFF?
can you find a specific song you want out of 5,000 in less than 10 seconds?

you only think itunes sucks because you dont use it/never had used it. you think that just because your MP3 player lasts 2 hours longer then mine and because it plays local radio that its better?

please, just another person bashing something thats popular.

abf bashes everything apple. it's getting pretty old.

BUT, as much as i love apple, the ipod mini just isn't the best in its class imo. my zen micro does everything the mini does with an extra gb, fm radio, and voice recorder. although, the mini has a better interface and (much) better software. depends what's important to you. the only major con i see of the zen micro is that it doesn't support os x.

the ipod like you said, has a better ui and MUCH better software. why struggle trying to find a song on the thing, or struggle trying to make playlists in their god awful software (if it exists)?

you'd sacrifice ease of use for an FM tuner and voice recording?

Microsoft PlaysForSure and Napster. Why would I pay 99c a song if i can buy a whole album for that price (allofmp3.com)?

iRivers UI is very user friendly, takes but a minute to get used to the controls. From a windows user's POV it is very familiar, from a linux user's POV its like a pocket linux box.

the "god awful" software you speak of does exist and comes on a CD with the player. However, using it is totaly optional unless you're on WinME or older (2k, 2k3, XP, and linux kernel 2.4 + dont need it). to create playlists you use the always familiar WinAMP or the new iRivum Explorer (great little program).

Commish, I have had an iRiver player, and my fiancee has an iPod mini. Either one will play regular mp3's (Unlike the Sony players. What genius thought that up?), and no, you are not required to use iTunes, but it is a good program. I also like the iRiver software.

Either one are fine players. The iPod has a much better UI and more cool stuff to accessorize it, but the iRiver has has more features and a better battery situation for less money than the iPod. For me, it came down to the fact that iRiver has better sound quality. By that, I mean it puts out more power to the headphone jack so you get a richer sound through your 'phones. But you can't go wrong with either one.
