5620 and installing Mini-PCI Wireless

post #1 of 8

Hi there,

I was looking at adding Mini-PCI wireless to my 5620 and I had a few questions.

One: Does this my 5620 come with a built in wireless antenna. If not, can I add one?

Two: Which wireless cards work with the 5620? I would like an a/b/g card if possible.

Thanks;

Phill

one: don't know

two: since it will go in a pcmcia slot, any. You will have better performance, luck, if you match your router and card, but it is not a requirement

The OP said Mini-PCI not pcmcia. The answer to number one is no I think the they didn't start with the built in antenna until the 5660. 2) Any mini-pci should work as long as you get the antenna kit.

Any idea where to find an antenna kit?

I'd hit up ebay. I think I saw them there. It runs around the perimeter of the LCD and routes under the top case. I'd check the sticky for the manual on hwere exactly. I was lucky inthat mine came preinstalled.

Granpa Ninja, please let us know how it works. the one that came in my 7700 is a big POS!!! it stays connected for about 5-10 minutes and then drops. Then I have to reboot and disable the WEP and then connect and then enable the WEP for it to connect again. It's not the router as my other computers stay connected all day. it's almost as if there's a timeout on it or something that I can't figure out.

sager wireless

I'm answering you through my wireless laptop now. It took me about 2 hours to install it as I took my time and made sketches of where things go cause at my age memory is the first thing to go. On startup it was found by win xp pro and then I inserted the CD that comes with it and wa-laa it started up and installed just fine and found my system. It picked up my linksys wireless transmitter from upstairs so the raaaaange is great, better than one of those PCMCIA cards. The bigest hassle was feeding the wire from the screen through into the body and not forgetting which lead was which colour. The sending units each have a different colour and that corresponds with the card terminals. You would have thought that they would have coloured the connection ends of the wires???
Anyway it's fassssssssstttttttttttttttttt.

The contact person for purchase is Donald Stratton at Donald@PowerNotebooks.com and ask for
Built-in IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11G for sager 5620P and make sure to include instructions to send the antennae. The package cost me at grand total of $ 87.00 US which included shipping.

Hope this is some help to you,
