4080 ethernet port broken?

i lifted up the 4080 to see if the fans needed cleaning and now xp says a network cable is unplugged. the network tray icon has a red x.

are the ethernet ports known to break? what can i do about this?

Unplug the network cable completely from the computer, wait a few seconds and firmly reinsert it.

I suggest you next try navigating to Network Connections (either on the Start Menu and/or in Control panel)

Identify the NIC (should have the X too) and see if you can enable it there. Beyond that I could only suggest R/R the NIC and see if windows reconfigures it on startup.

Past that I'm fresh out.

After that, if it works, be sure to unplug it before moving it, just in case the port wiring is loose or damaged.

i try to lift the 4080 on the corner so i don't put pressure on the cd drive and it ends up messing up the ethernet jack.
