Gotta be the shortest lifespan of a laptop I've seen from Dell.....EVER!!!

That's gotta cost Dell some serious bucks to pull a laptop so fast.

He means it hasn't been available in Singapore for weeks

Do ya reckon they pulled it? Or are they maybe all out of crap screens and waiting on new ones? Hmmm....

Seems strange that the US still has it available for ordering. Perhaps it is going to be released first here for a change

Seriously though, I'm not sure whether they pulled it or not at this stage, but if its not back up in 24-48hrs, I would say its gone.

Cheers

ya it looks strange.. coz for the last 2 times they had 1000$ off offers directly one after another in 2-3 days gap which usually didnt happened b4.. and the offer expired 2 days ago and now its gone..

Still available in the UK..

But then again our (european market) stuff is manufactured in Ireland, whereas the US/Australasian gear is manufactured in Asia Pacific. Perhaps they have just run down stock quicker in your market?

Why would it cost them serious bucks to pull it? Just think about it, the 9300 is the exact same design as the 9200 just with a better processor and video card. They were smart for putting the 9200 out and no making customers wait around for a 17" notebook.

I agree with Frontier. The i9300 is extemely similar to the i9200. In fact I bet the i9300 was what DELL had hoped to release during the holiday season. . .but INTEL ran into delays on Sonoma. Since INTEL was not going to have Sonoma ready in time I bet the i9200 was released simply to ensure DELL had a 17 inch laptop ready for the holidays. Now that Sonoma is out the i9300 will quickly replace the i9200.

hmmm.. u sound right..

Well, they are basiclly the same. But Sonoma is a new platform with DDR2, pci-express and serial ata. Speedvice it will not be much faster with the same graphicscard thats on the i9200. But since it uses the 6800Go it will be significantly faster on most games.
And, you forget, it will probably cost a lot more (and if it doesn't, then if the 9200 remained they would probably have to lower the 9200 price below profitability).
Intel typically sets the price of new chips at the same price level that the prior high end chips sold for and adjusts everything else down. Since DELL keeps very little inventory I doubt there would be a MAJOR below profitablity fire sale on the i9200 as it is dropped from the current lineup.

Sonoma doesn't cost much more than other pentium M notebooks. In fact, I think anandtech has a chart with the processor prices, and the pentium M 2ghz 533mhz fsb is the same price as the 400mhz fsb version, somewhere in the low $200 range. The 2.13ghz cpu with 533mhz fsb is a lot more though (around $450). The i9300 is probably going to replace the i9200 rather than accompany it, because they are too similar. Put an X600 in the i9300 and it will be barely faster than the i9200, only because it has a faster bus and memory.

Interesting that the i9200 is gone, but the i9100 remains. The i9100 has been gone from the US Dell site for some time.

the graphicscard is probably the main thing that raises the price on i9300, and the memory. wouldnt surprise me if they overpriced the overpriced memory price.

biggest question is, wonder how much a regular p-m 2.0/2.1/2.2 is gonna cost now with sonama out i feel the upgrade demons poking around in my lobes.
