hate to break it to u guys...8890 delay

from powernotebooks forums:

Quote:
Unfortunately the shipping date for the new Sager NP8890 has been delayed until next week.

The good news is thanks to Sager's great Quality Control group, certain issues with this model were discovered, and at this time a new BIOS upgrade seems to have fixed them.

We won't know for sure until Friday August 22nd when testing is completed, but if all goes well they should start shipping on Monday August 25th.

At this time there are over 600 pre-orders to fill, so they all will not go out right away. However if you placed your order early, you will be among the first to ship.

Please come back to this Announcement on Monday August 25th, and from time to time thereafter, for any further updates.
pretty sure this will apply to pctorque as well. and please don't kill the messanger

Can you confirm this Adam?

This is in no way something a reseller can control. Also, Sager can only give a prediction from the facts they're given and see. When you give a ship date of something that's still being worked on, it can only be a guess to their best knowledge. If they don't try to guess people get mad and feel they’re not informed. If they're wrong people get mad, so there's nothing that can be done perfect to please the masses.

The delay is not official, though it looks like there will be a slight one. There will be info later today on it. As always they're working out all the bios bugs. If they came up with a better bios that takes care of a screen view glitch in DOS mode, they're going to put it on before sending it out. Everyone wants these things to be perfect and that's the plans. There's no way to predict how long it will take a team to debug something, but they tried to. I haven't been informed of any week delay, only of another fix they wanted to implement that they weren't sure if it would delay it a bit or not, but looked like it would.

So just hang on and we'll have info today.

You have to ask yourself - do you want a laptop NOW that has bugs and will need to be sent back in 1 week to be refitted. Or do you want to wait 2-3 more days and then keep it once you get it.

I want a laptop NOW and if the problem that showed up was significant or affected me, I could do a bios flash myself.
Ok maybe you could Dye - but what probably would happen is that the problem would surface - 599 other people would bitch and moan about quality control and some certainly would have to send back their machines. And what if it wasnt something you could fix at home? The BIOS has been mentioned but for all we know at the moment it could be more involved.

All I am saying is I am sure sager are working on this as fast as they can. Remember this is their business and they want it to prosper.

I feel your pain, Dyeinbreed. I really wasn't surprised at this new development... I want mine here now too. However, remind yourself that it is worth the wait.

And, as was stated, imagine having to send it back...

Cheers buddy,

Rakewell

Here's what will happen if they have a big backlash of complaints of not meeting the predicted date:

They will no longer share new release info and release prediction dates with us to pass along to everyone.
=(

I can't wait to do this again for the 5680

Great, another delay, I KNEW there was going to be one!

I am going crazy. I swear this thing is eluding me on purpose. I will never get a laptop, it's just a big fantasy the world is tricking me into thinking.

IF they start shipping out Monday, that isn't much of a delay really if any. You must consider the weekend yet where they don't ship really anyway.

Ohwell, it figures... As long as they keep us informed.

First-

Adam, thanks for keeping up with this. We all appreciate your efforts to keep us informed.

Second-

Sager made the right decision. It's always a tough call to choose quality control over immediate customer gratification and risk immediate monitary loss but it's almost invariabily the RIGHT choice. If you have a problem with your laptop in the first 30 days I almost always recommend sending it back because the first 30 days are a pretty good manufacturing/quality control bellwether. I look forward to getting a perfect laptop in the near future. Of course Sager does have a limited time to provide one...but I'm willing to give them the time they need at least for now.

8890 delay

Adam: please don't have them ship my 8890, which I just spent $3900+ on, until it is absolutely ready, with no glitches. Ignore the whining and keep up the good work!
