Honoring of online prices

Just out of curiousity, has anyone had a problem with online (Sager) vendors failing to meet the price on a configured system on the vendor website?

I had this occur this morning. Went to a authorized SAGER vendor website to check out pricing. Configured a system. I liked the results so placed an order. 30 minutes later I get a call saying that the vendor site was hacked and that the real price was 10% more than the confirmed price I received. They asked if I wanted to go ahead at that price or cancel. I cancelled.

I don't want to name the vendor (I will say it was not PCTorque), but I'm a bit peeved that they are not willing to honor the pricing.

Anyway, I guess I'll look at the other vendors (including PCTorque) now and reorder this afternoon.

Anyway, I guess this is little more than venting, but was curious whether people find this to happen on a regular basis.

Wow, that is lame. I've never heard of that happening before. I got my 9860 from PCT and couldn't be happier.

So did they change the price to reflect the "hacked" mistake or is it still the same price right now? Either way the "hacked" message seems a bit far-fetched.

The 10% was a ball park. They had a drop down in the configurator for memory --- included was 1G, then had an option for 2G 2 DIMMS for some amount and then they had a 2G 2 DIMMS for no additional cost. Yes -- a likely mistake, but still, it was on the web site in their configurator.

It is now corrected on the website to be a $300 cost (approximately 10% of the total price).

So now the real question comes down to:

Do I go with 3.4 and 2G memory or 3.6 and 1G memory????

IMHO, more memory would provide greater benefits than the 3.6 and I think the consensus on the following thread agrees:

I'd go 3.4 and 2Gig out of those options. You won't notice anything by going to the 3.6.

I haven't heard of this happening with other Sager vendors but I have heard about Vicious PC having "incorrect" prices on their site for their Uniwill laptops. Why not name the Sager vendor in question. We may or may not give them the benefit of the doubt, but when a vendor does this letting lots of people know about it can deter it happening again.
