New Machines

When you get a new machine, do you reformat the hard drive, etc.? I'm still trying to decide whether I should do so with my 7700. More specifically, does Alienware leave a lot of undesirable residue on the hard drive from the factory?

Why would you do that? One of the best things about an Alienware is that it doesn't come from the factory loaded down with a ton of crap to remove. All that was loaded on mine was AlienGuise, Power DVD, Nero, and the software for the sound card. Nothing else, not even Real player or Quicktime or AOL free trials or any other crap.

Nice. That's what I'd heard, for the most part; my last few systems have been Dells, and they've come with a bunch of useless junk.

I reformat my hard drive only because I split up the partitions. With a 60gb drive, I normally split it 20 for the system/program files and 40 for everything else. C and D drives respectively. That way, if I have to reinstall the OS for any reason, I keep all of my important data.

My $0.02 worth.

People I know are starting to buy from Dell SB. True you have to pay tax but sometimes the deals are better there and the PC doesn't come with all the useless cr@p.

Dell's useless crap

I've bought close to 100 computers for my company thru Dell SB, one good thing is you can purchase the Lattitude line of laptops, one bad thing is the useless crap is still in there. I wish it were true that Dell SB didn't pack their computers with useless crap.
